<p>Employment Type:</p> <p>Full time</p> <p>Shift:</p> <p>Day Shift</p> <p>Description:</p> <p>Summary:</p> <p>The Pharmacy Systems and Operations Coordinator oversees the implementation, maintenance, and quality</p> <p>assurance of pharmacy technologies and medication use improvement initiatives. Serves as liaison between</p> <p>pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff, other healthcare professionals, and corporate pharmacy services to ensure</p> <p>safe, timely, efficient, equitable, effective, and patient-centered medication use safe.</p> <p>Scope of responsibilities include pharmacy automation and technology systems, distribution operations,</p> <p>compounding and preparation, and education related to all aspects of pharmacy operations. Project management,</p> <p>oversight and involvement will range from independent work on small projects, to leading teams on large scale</p> <p>system-wide changes. Many projects will involve departments external to pharmacy and the coordinator will be</p> <p>required to use advanced communication and project management skills lead quality and efficiency improvement</p> <p>efforts. An understanding of and the ability to apply lean principles is important to success in this position.</p> <p>The coordinator reports directly to the Inpatient Pharmacy Manager but may also support other Managers.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education</p> <p>Minimum: Bachelor's of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD.</p> <p>Preferred: PharmD and MS or MBA focused on operation management and performance improvement.</p> <p>Credentials/Licensure</p> <p>Minimum: Registered Pharmacist, Michigan Licensure</p> <p>Preferred: ASHP Accredited PGY-1 Residency and PGY-2 Pharmacy Administration Residency</p> <p>Related Experience</p> <p>Minimum: Five years of Pharmacy medication systems and/or operations experience in an acute care</p> <p>environment or completion of a two-year pharmacy medications systems and / or management</p> <p>residency training program.</p> <p>Preferred: Certifications and experience directly applicable to the pharmacy department.</p> <p>Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Preferred: Specialized training in personnel management, conflict resolution, negotiations, and contract</p> <p>management.</p> <p>Computer Competency</p> <p>Familiarity with standard desktop and windows-based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and</p> <p>computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.</p> <p>Physical/Mental</p> <p>Minimum: Sit, stand, stoop, twist, walk (30% - 80% of work time). Lift, carry, push pull objects weighing up to</p> <p>20 lbs. (10% of work time). Perform detailed tasks with frequent interruptions & changing</p> <p>priorities (80% of work time). Hear speech and distinguish sounds; speak loudly and softly;</p> <p>utilize near vision; fine motor skills and manual dexterity.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <p>The Pharmacy Systems and Operations Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the following at Trinity Health and</p> <p>entities for which Trinity Health provides contracted services, such as Mary Free Bed:</p> <p>A. Pharmacy System and Operations Coordination and Implementation.</p> <ol> <li>Responsible for operational systems to assure appropriate prescribing, distribution, administration, </li></ol> <p>and monitoring outcomes of drug therapy process.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>In collaboration with Inpatient Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacy Operations Manager, assist in </li></ol> <p>oversight of day-to-day operations while identifying and resolving problems which occur.</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Manage technology and automation to allow for optimum resources. Assure that existing </li></ol> <p>automation is being utilized at the highest level of efficiency and develop efficiency standards for</p> <p>each.</p> <ol start="4"> <li>Evaluate new automation that may bring additional value to Trinity Health and entities for which </li></ol> <p>Trinity Health provides contracted services, such as Mary Free Bed.</p> <ol start="5"> <li>Sustain compliance within sterile compounding (USP 797), non-sterile compounding practices (USP </li></ol> <p>795) and handing of hazardous drugs (USP 800).</p> <ol start="6"> <li>Infusion pump drug libraries (e.g. CADD, PCA, Syringe - Coordinates the development and </li></ol> <p>maintenance of drug libraries in infusion pumps including available concentrations and guardrails</p> <ol start="7"> <li>Assist and coordinate efforts to ensure operations meet compliance and quality improvement </li></ol> <p>standards and initiatives.</p> <ol start="8"> <li>Planning and project management for specific projects and new services related to departmental </li></ol> <p>goals.</p> <ol start="9"> <li> <p>Write and/or review policies and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct post-implementation assessment of pharmacy automation enhancements and new</p> </li></ol> <p>pharmacy programs to ensure desired changes are achieved. Change systems to achieve desired</p> <p>results.</p> <ol start="11"> <li>Prepare work plans, identifying steps involved, resources required and parties who should be </li></ol> <p>involved both within and outside the department.</p> <p>B. Financial Management</p> <ol> <li> <p>Sustain efforts to improve financial performance in assigned areas of responsibility.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates and maintains pharmacy dashboards related to pharmacy workload and productivity.</p> </li><li> <p>Identify opportunities to redesign operational systems to maximize labor and operational</p> </li></ol> <p>efficiency.</p> <p>C. Medication Use Outcomes and Stewardship</p> <ol> <li>Represents department and organization at System Office and/or local Health Ministry </li></ol> <p>committees/subcommittees and various advisory committees.</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Supports appropriate drug utilization across full continuum of patient care as defined by Managers.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor prescription costs and drug utilization trends across the full continuum of care and makes</p> </li></ol> <p>recommendations that promote the cost-effective use of pharmaceuticals.</p> <ol start="4"> <li>Monitor internal and external quality metrics related to medication use and quality improvement </li></ol> <p>initiatives as necessary.</p> <ol start="5"> <li>Enforces state and federal licensing regulations (DEA, CMS, MDPH, JCAHO Michigan Department of </li></ol> <p>Licensing and Regulation, etc.) governing the receipt, handling, storage, distribution and waste of</p> <p>controlled substances and investigational drugs.</p> <p>D. Human resource management</p> <ol> <li>Hold pharmacy colleagues accountable to practice and service standards of the department and </li></ol> <p>institution. Notifies Managers of any personnel issues in a proactive and timely manner.</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Supports recruitment interviews of candidates for open positions.</p> </li><li> <p>Assure proper training for end users and competency validation.</p> </li><li> <p>Develops standard work, provides coaching, monitors progress, and provide feedback to Manager</p> </li></ol> <p>on colleague performance.</p> <ol start="5"> <li>Creates opportunities to advance colleagues professional development goals by creating </li></ol> <p>framework for advancement and directing, coaching and supporting colleagues to grow.</p> <ol start="6"> <li>Supports pharmacist practice councils (i.e. Med-Surg and Critical Care) and pharmacist staff </li></ol> <p>meetings.</p> <ol start="7"> <li>Participate as a member of pharmacy department and hospital multidisciplinary team and </li></ol> <p>committees, including but not limited to the following:</p> <p>i. Pharmacist Committees, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations, Drug Shortages, Residency Advisory</p> <p>Committee.</p> <p>ii. Member, various standing department and hospital multidisciplinary committees, ad hoc</p> <p>committees, and improvement teams as appropriate.</p> <p>E. Teaching/ Scholarship</p> <ol> <li>Actively participate in the education of the next generation of pharmacists via pharmacy student </li></ol> <p>clerkships, pharmacy internships, and post-graduate residency training programs.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Serve as an advisor and/or preceptor for students/interns/residents on patient care and </li></ol> <p>administrative rotations/residencies.</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Supports clinical research, residency projects, and acts as a career advisor to pharmacy residents. </li></ol> <p>F.
