<p>The Traffic Operations Director oversees the City's traffic system and part of transportation system,</p> <p>focusing on planning, operations, and maintenance to ensure safety, efficiency, and innovation. This role includes managing improvement projects, daily operations, and grant-funded initiatives, working closely with the Associate Traffic Engineer. The Director supervises staff, consultants, and contractors while addressing citizen concerns and prioritizing work assignments. The Director directly supervises the Associate Traffic Engineer and two foremen and indirectly manages up to 9 electricians, signal technicians, and sign & traffic operators. Reporting to the Public Works Division Manager, the position requires significant independent judgment and initiative.</p> <ol> <li> <p>Strong supervisory and communication skills and ability to plan, assign, and review work of subordinate employees.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with other City employees, supervisors, elected officials and the public.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of principles and practices, and practical application of traffic and transportation engineering, including standards, policies, technical issues and understanding of construction documents.</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with or understanding traffic signals modeling and simulation.</p> </li><li> <p>Some degree of familiarity with AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, and HCS software.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge and ability to apply innovation and engineering judgment in the evaluation, selection and implementation of design and solution alternatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects effectively.</p> </li><li> <p>The ability to generate ideas to write grants and supervise grant projects particularly state and federal grants.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work with people from a broad variety of social, economic, racial, ethnic and educational backgrounds.</p> </li></ol>
