Learn more about us at worcester.edu/about .</p> <p>Job Description: OFFICIAL TITLE: Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Multicultural Affairs SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Student employees; subordinate staff in the absence of the Director</p> <p>General Statement of Duties: The Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs is responsible for contributing to the development, implementation, assessment, and enhancement of student retention and programmatic efforts, including multicultural programmatic efforts associated with the mission of the department and the university. The incumbent provides direct support to an underserved student population through these initiatives.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>(E) = Essential</p> <p>(E) Responsible for coordinating the Alternatives for Individual Development (A.I.D. Program) and Summer Bridge Program. (E) Coordinates and develops retention student support services for the AID program participants: Summer Bridge Program, Young Men's Group, and Women's Circle. (E) Responsible for the recruitment of all OMA programs. (E) Plays a key role in the development, implementation, assessment, and enhancement of multicultural programming that contributes to the mission of the department and the university, including but not limited to educational, cultural, and social opportunities for learning and engagement across campus; engages with campus and university partners accordingly. (E) Supports and advises student organizations, clubs, groups, and extracurricular activities geared towards multicultural and diverse student populations, as assigned. (E) Recruits, hires, and supervises peer advisors; oversees a team of skilled academic coaches. (E) Provides academic support to program participants; develops individualized support to remediate an assessed problem; arranges for individualized and group development; refers students to the campus support resources, as necessary. (E) Maintains accurate data, both qualitative and quantitative, to measure the effectiveness of programming and to monitor student progress; completes reports as necessary. (E) Assists the Director by collaborating with university partners across divisions and in the community to develop further and promote multicultural student engagement, mentorship, and leadership development and opportunities. (E) Supports the work of the director in developing and attracting underserved students to the university; works collaboratively with other departments. (E) Assists the director with developing and maintaining internal and external professional relationships that contribute to the development, attraction, retention, and success of multicultural and diverse students. (E) Supports and collaborates with the Upward Bound Program and other programs under the Office of Multicultural Affairs. (E) Serves on committees as required. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service-oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. (E) Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Requirements: Required Qualifications:</p> <p>Bachelor's degree. At least 3 - 5 years of related, professional experience, preferably in a higher education setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administration, and the off-campus community. Demonstrated knowledge of educational student development. Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures. Demonstrated experience with educational, cultural, and/or recreational programming. Demonstrated experience working with traditionally underrepresented groups.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <p>Master's degree.</p> <p>Additional Information: This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position.
