Students will learn skills related to working in a physician's office. As a lab based class, students will practice in both front and back office environments and learn the skills associated with each, such as taking vitals to coding and billing. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to test for and earn a Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA) certification. Students will be expected to learn a multitude of competencies in the field. The teacher must be proficient in the areas of English Language Arts, social studies, mathematics, and laboratory procedures as related to the curriculum for Medical Assisting.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Hold an associate or more advanced degree from an institution of higher learning accredited or approved by an accrediting agency recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). </li><li>Hold current licensure, certification, or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner. </li><li>Two years of full-time wage-earning work experience as a health professions practitioner in a field that is nationally recognized by an accrediting agency. The required work experience must be approved by a certification officer of an approved educator preparation program. (Statement of Qualifications form [PDF, 305.40 KB]) </li><li>Eligible military experience may be used in lieu of civilian licensure and wage-earning experience; your educator preparation program will review for eligibility. </li><li>Complete an approved Texas Educator Preparation Program or hold Texas Teacher Certification </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provide students with rigorous learning activities and experiences in various courses within the Health Science Career and Technical Education Career Cluster </li><li>Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior </li><li>Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required </li><li>Prepare lessons that include accommodations for individual student differences </li><li>Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present content according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations </li><li>Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities </li><li>Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP) </li><li>Work with members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements </li><li>Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing </li><li>Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal </li><li>Be professional and serve as a positive role model for students: support mission of school district </li><li>Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students </li><li>Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook </li><li>Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities </li><li>Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials </li><li>Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required </li><li>Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members </li><li>Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills </li><li>Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers </li><li>Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required </li><li>Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupation area assigned </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Classes Taught</p> <ul> <li>Principles of Health Science </li><li>Medical Terminology </li><li>Medical Assistant </li><li>Practicum in Health Science (WBL) </li></ul> <p>Work Location: One location - City View ISD Secondary CTE</p>
