Learning Community Programs is seeking two Graduate Assistants (GA).? We welcome, connect and support students in their transition(s) to and within OHIO University.</p> <p>We seek professionals who advance their own knowledge and understanding in how to engage across differences. This commitment is crucial as we support all students on campus. We have a strong commitment to supporting a welcoming culture within the Learning Communities team.</p> <p>Learning Community Programs supports both a First-Year Seminar course as well as linked courses by college/major for First-Year students. Learning Communities and First-Year Seminars are both high-impact practices as identified by AAC&U. An average of 98% of First-Year students take the elective seminar and learning community courses. OHIO University Bobcats have been in First-Year Learning Communities for over 20 years. It is connected to their major/ academic program, not tied to their residential assignment.</p> <p>The First-Year Seminar is co-facilitated by an instructor and a peer called a Learning Community Leader. In and outside of the classroom, the Learning Community Leader (LCL) is charged with facilitating the students' adjustment to Ohio University. The GA's primary role is to supervise the LCLs. There is also a senior student role that supports the LCLs and is called an LCL Coordinator. This position is also supervised by the GA.</p> <p>The GA is supervised by the Assistant Director of Student Leader Engagement.</p> <p>This position is a Campus Security Authority which means that GAs are mandated reporters for any reports of sexual misconduct.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Supervision</p> <ul> <li>Manage the work of up to two LCL Coordinators as they provide support to the LCLs and delegate administrative functions to expand the effectiveness of Learning Community Programs. </li><li>Supervise the work of an estimated 50-70 LCLs assigned to the GA. </li><li>Manage staff meetings, known as Success Team Meetings, as a weekly meeting for LCLs and LCL Coordinators. Providing updated information, troubleshooting, training refreshers, etc. </li><li>Provide feedback to student staff. </li></ul> <p>Engage LCLs in the curriculum of the First-Year seminar, titled UC 1900.</p> <ul> <li>Advance the LCL's sense of belonging through regular team builders, modeling what they can do with their class. </li><li>Serve as a resource to the LCLs for issues they face throughout their work. </li><li>Provide oversight of the activity expectations of the LCL role. </li><li>Gather information from LCLs about their programming efforts, collecting photos, quotes, and experiences to share on the FYrST Office social media channels. </li></ul> <p>Manage the recruitment, selection, and training of the LCLs and LCL Coordinators.</p> <ul> <li>Recruitment includes the recruitment, application, selection, and notification processes for new LCLs, returning LCLs, new LCL Coordinators, and returning LCL Coordinators. </li><li>Develop training in alignment with outcomes for all peer leader positions and levels within the positions. Provide intermittent training to individuals hired off-cycle as well as to address specific areas as needed. </li><li>Develop communications with LCL staff during the summer to ensure the LCL is engaged and completing summer training expectations. </li></ul> <p>Support administrative tasks and projects associated with the Learning Community Program specialty events such as:</p> <ul> <li>Serve as an Instructor for UC 1900 Learning Community Seminar </li><li>Honey for the Heart </li><li>Class assessments </li><li>Alcohol and Other Drug education </li><li>Recruitment and selection </li><li>Training student leaders </li><li>End of Year awards and recognition </li></ul> <p>Support administrative tasks and projects associated with Learning Community Programs such as, but not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Social Media management </li><li>Admissions event program representative </li><li>Assessment and evaluation </li><li>Learning Community cluster development </li><li>GA onboarding and training </li><li>Peer Leader and Campus Connections </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Eligibility</p> <ul> <li>Maintain good standing eligibility for graduate tuition remission. </li><li>During the time of service, remain free of disciplinary status imposed through the University conduct system in addition to local, state, and federal laws. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience in leadership, engagement, student success programs or initiatives. </li><li>Genuine desire to work with First-Year students. </li><li>Desire to engage across difference. </li><li>Experience in thinking critically to problem solve issues. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to balance academics, employment and extracurricular activities. </li><li>Enrollment in an OHIO University Master's or Doctoral program; tuition remission is currently only available to Patton College of Education and Scripps College of Communication students. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Elevated leadership role in a student leader position. </li><li>Experience in engaging across difference. </li><li>Enrollment in Patton College of Education Master's or Doctoral College Student Personnel program. </li></ul> <p>Department University College, Dean's Office Pay Rate</p> <ul> <li>Graduate assistantship stipend is $13,500 annually. </li><li>Tuition remission, through select masters / doctoral programs </li><li>Hourly work is available during academic breaks including Spring Break, Fall Break, Winter Break, and Summer Break based on demand. The current (2025) hourly rate is $19.16. </li><li>Internal professional development opportunities exist in the LCP & Signature Academic Experiences Office and University College. External professional development opportunities, such as conference attendance, are also available for individuals who present a session at a conference. </li></ul> <p>Posting Open Date 03/26/2025 Posting End Date 05/31/2025 Job Category Student Hourly Planning Unit University College Work Schedule</p> <p>Start Date</p> <p>This GA position begins August 4, 2025, and is paid through hourly compensation.
