<p>Department: Clerk of Courts</p> <p>Anticipated Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM</p> <p>Reports To: Manager</p> <p>Full Time or Part Time: Full Time</p> <p>Regular or Temporary: Regular</p> <p>Bargaining Unit: Non-bargaining</p> <p>Classified or Unclassified: Unclassified</p> <p>FLSA: Exempt</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>This position has oversight of the day-to-day operations of a Section of either the Criminal, Civil, Domestic Relations, Appeals, or Archives Divisions of the Clerk of Courts with the objective of effective management through the following: Coordinating the work of the clerical support staff and assisting higher level managers by ensuring work is performed according to established standards.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates the work of clerical support staff (e.g., assigns and prioritizes work; provides training and instruction; ensures work is performed according to established standards; and, responds to employee work-related issues). </li><li>Evaluates performance of section employees; maintains work standards; recommends selection, transfer, promotion, performance improvement plans, or discipline of employees; and, reviews and approves requests for leave based on staffing needs. </li><li>Assists higher level managers by researching and analyzing case information to support business decisions; helps institute 'best practices' regarding operational efficiencies, internal controls and policies and procedures; relays managerial decisions to employees in section; and handles routine issues or details in Section. </li><li>Responds to compliments, concerns, inquiries and complaints from customers and court personnel. </li><li>Liaison with Clerk of Courts, Director(s) and Manager(s) regarding daily activities and end of day report for function areas, or Sections, within the office. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree with three (3) years experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. </li><li>Preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree. </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ability to operate a variety of automated office machines including a personal computer utilizing various software packages, typewriter, microfilm camera, microfilm reader, telephone and copier. </li><li>Ability to assign, review, plan and coordinate the work of other employees and maintain standards. </li><li>Ability to provide instruction to other employees and act on employee problems. </li><li>Ability to prepare employee performance evaluations. </li><li>Ability to recommend the discipline or discharge of employees. </li><li>Ability to recommend the transfer, promotion or salary increase of other employees. </li><li>Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions and the ability to interpret graphs. </li><li>Requires the ability to perform data analysis including the ability to audit, deduce, assess, and conclude. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such established criteria to define consequences and develop alternatives. </li><li>Ability to comprehend a variety of legal and court documents including rulings, judgments, indictments, plea agreements, sentencing documents, rulings, motions, appeals, subpoenas, expungements, court dockets, forms, reports, memos and correspondence. </li><li>Ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals including personnel policy manuals, computer software manuals, local rules of court and the Ohio Revised Code (ORC). </li><li>Ability to prepare purchase orders, inventory reports, telephone lists, attendance logs, performance appraisals, warrants, orders and other job related documents using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style. </li><li>Ability to manage people and programs, to supervise employees, to convince and influence others, to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow instructions. </li><li>Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals within and outside of the department. </li><li>Ability to use Clerk of Courts' case management system and various software packages and interpret administrative and legal terminology. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with Clerk of Courts, Directors, Managers, court personnel, consultants, vendors, other County employees and the general public. </li></ul> <p>Application Process</p> <p>This is an unclassified position.
