<p>Requisition No: 871290</p> <p>Agency: Department of Corrections</p> <p>Working Title: CORRECTIONAL SERVICES CONSULTANT</p> <p>Pay Plan: Career Service</p> <p>Position Number: 70004337</p> <p>Salary: $54,135.64-$82,683.90 Annually</p> <p>Posting Closing Date: 03/10/2026</p> <p>Total Compensation Estimator Tool</p> <p>FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS</p> <p>We Never Walk Alone</p> <p>ADVERTISING/WORKING TITLE: CORRECTIONAL SERVICES CONSULTANT</p> <p>This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at the Central Office in the State Classification Department.</p> <p>The mission of the Correctional Services Consultant is to ensure the fair and effective management of inmate custody and classification by approving and overseeing custody recommendations, facilitating inmate participation in rehabilitative programs, and coordinating transfers. We are committed to transparent communication with all stakeholders, providing essential training to staff, and maintaining the integrity of our programs through consistent application of rules and procedures. Our goal is to support the successful reintegration of inmates into society while maintaining safety and order within our facilities.</p> <p>This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves. The employee may be assigned to institutions outside of Tallahassee.</p> <p>JOB DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Approves, disapproves, or modifies custody recommendations, including Close Management and Protective Management, and oversees work release center recommendations. </li><li>Reviews and places inmates in academic, vocational, substance abuse programs, veteran's dormitories, Faith and Character Based programs, and coordinates transfers to re-entry facilities. </li><li>Responds to inquiries from inmate families, staff, law enforcement, courts, government officials, and the public regarding inmate classification issues, and provides on-site assistance during institutional disturbances. </li><li>Provides training on state classification functions to staff, reviews and investigates inmate administrative appeals, and ensures uniform application of rules for the Faith and Character Based program. </li><li>Participates in State Classification Office meetings, reviews and suggests changes to administrative rules and manuals, and maintains records for facility profile changes. </li></ul> <p>BENEFITS:</p> <ul> <li>Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. </li><li>Comprehensive health insurance and life insurance with accidental death and dismemberment benefits. </li><li>Supplemental Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and Hospitalization insurance. </li><li>Tuition-Free college courses. </li><li>Retirement Plans with the Florida Retirement System: </li><li></li><li>Pension Plan (Traditional Retirement Pension Plan) </li><li>Investment Plan (401(K)-Type Retirement Plan) </li><li>Deferred Retirement Option Program (Drop) </li><li>Deferred Compensation </li><li>Recently Retired? You will not be required to repay any prior distributions, and you may continue receiving distributions from the Investment Plan or Pension Plan without interruption. </li></ul> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Must have held the position of Classification Supervisor or higher for (2) years. </li><li>Must have at least Five (5) or more years of experience in Classification with the Florida Department of Corrections. </li><li>A Bachelor's degree from an accreditied college or university can substitute for one year of experience. </li></ul> <p>Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:</p> <p>BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT</p> <p>The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.
