Engineering Technicians play a critical role in supporting technical and field operations that maintain and improve Louisiana's public road system.</p> <p>About This Job</p> <p>Engineering Technicians assigned to the Data Collection and Management Systems - System Inventory function support the collection, verification, and maintenance of highway inventory data using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, high-definition video, aerial imagery, and roadway asset software.</p> <p>This position supports state and federal transportation planning by documenting roadway characteristics and physical features, including pavement attributes, shoulders, intersections, railroad crossings, sidewalks, and other roadway assets.</p> <p>Work assignments involve a combination of field and office-based duties and may require statewide travel.</p> <p>Please visit our DOTD Career Center for more information about our agency:</p> <p>https://dotd.la.gov/about/office-of-management-and-finance/human-resources/career-center/</p> <p>Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR</p> <p>Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.</p> <p>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:</p> <p>Depending on assignment and experience level, Engineering Technicians may:</p> <ul> <li>Collect and extract highway inventory data using GPS devices and high-definition video </li><li>Record roadway characteristics and physical assets for DOTD inventory databases </li><li>Maintain and update the Transportation Asset Highway Inventory Database (TAHIN) </li><li>Perform Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) on collected data </li><li>Review and modify asset data using roadway characteristics software </li><li>Prepare maps, routes, and documentation for field assignments </li><li>Track and maintain construction project information and records </li><li>Enter data into databases, spreadsheets, or applications </li><li>Assist with emergency or disaster response activities as needed </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Career Progression: This position may be filled as Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on qualifications and agency needs</p> <p>Appointment Type:  Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty</p> <p>Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00 per hour for all hours worked.
