These medical professionals may examine a host of different types of samples, including various body fluids, feces, cells and tissues. Upon conclusion of the testing, the Medical Laboratory Scientist will report back to the ordering physician and consult with him or her about the results.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures; interprets and analyzes results. </li><li>Identifies and corrects problems within the scope of training and education. </li><li>Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment. </li><li>Performs, records, and evaluates Quality Control. </li><li>Assists Lead, Supervisor, or Manager with inventory, schedules, and safety. </li><li>Conducts competency assessments. </li><li>May be responsible for developing and evaluating new methods of testing, depending on their experience and position. </li></ul> <p>This document is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, or working conditions associated with the job. Employees may be required to perform other job-related duties as required by their supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodation.</p> <p>Licensing/Certification</p> <p>For BSMH, MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required)</p> <p>For RSFH (as of 3/27/25), if registry-eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date.</p> <p>Education</p> <p>Bachelors, Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Biomedical Science/Biology/Biochemistry</p> <p>through a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved program (required)</p> <p>Work Experience</p> <p>Externship program completed (preferred)</p> <p>Training</p> <p>None</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT)</p> <p>Job Summary:</p> <p>The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT) is responsible for performing the routine test on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, as well as providing physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT) must have a total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Performs analytical tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/ unusual results</p> </li><li> <p>Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results by taking the appropriate action according to protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before patient results are released</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, monitoring temperatures following hospital policies, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must have one of the following:</p> </li><li> <p>Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology</p> </li><li> <p>Completed 60 semester hours (including six hours of chemistry and six of biology) of academic credit from a college or university accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency and have completed a Medical Lab Technician Program</p> </li><li> <p>Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years</p> </li></ul> <p>Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required) </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Two years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred) </li></ul> <p>Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-pasted environment</p> </li><li> <p>Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner</p> </li></ul> <p>Mercy Health is an equal opportunity employer.</p> <p>As a Mercy Health associate, you're part of a Misson that matters.
