We are dedicated to protecting the state of South Carolina and we would love to have you as a member of our team!</p> <p>Under limited supervision, the Senior Scientist will provide technical support to all five Bureaus within the Agency advancing science through planing, coordinating, and facilitating activities that support Agency responses and projects. Maintain expertise and flexibility to address emerging and/or emergency environmental issues. Develop and implement tools to allow for the better accessibility and visualization of data collected or obtained by the Agency, to include GIS integration strategies. Oversee the Agency's drone (UAV) program. Evalute trends in environmental data related to current projects. Provide technical assistance to all SCDES Bureaus pertaining to data and its communication and presentation to community groups and individuals. Provides technical representation and perspective on Community Engagement activity</p> <p>Job Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Promotes implementation of the Department of Environmental Services data collection and visualization strategy to include GIS and the drone program. </li><li>Supports staff development and projects in Environmental Affairs with focus on improved data access, visualization and communication. </li><li>Actively supports and contributes to the EA and program response to community and citizen concerns. </li><li>Represents Environmental Affairs, providing technical perspective in internal and intra-agency workgroups. </li><li>Completes all necessary documentation as required and requested. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>A master's degree in the natural or physical sciences, public health or related technical field and six years of environmental experience; or a bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, public health or related technical field and seven (7) years of environmental experience.</p> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Thorough knowledge of the principles of Quality Assurance associated with planning, collection and analysis of environmental data. </li><li>Familiarity with program area data collection and statistics as applied to analytical questions. </li><li>Skill in effective collaboration of professional and technical personnel. </li><li>Ability to collaborate plan, set up, supervise or conduct projects as presented in complex written or oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to review and write analytical reports and plans and interpret and present environmental data to technical and non-technical audiences. </li><li>Must have excellent communication (both oral and written), time management, and organizational skills. </li><li>Must be able to translate technical data/information into language that is understandable by a wide variety of stakeholders, including the general public. </li></ul> <p>Must be available to work 37.5 hours/week; weekends and emergencies as required. Must be available for occasional travel for training and emergencies.</p> <p>Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.</p> <p>Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application are encouraged to upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application.
