The Spanish Teacher will be responsible for providing a classroom/instructional program that supports the individual needs of all children per the school's mission and values.Responsibilities & duties (including, but not limited to)Instructional Planning -Plan, organize, and provide instruction to assist students in mastering verbal and written skills in Spanish using individual and small group techniques.Provide instruction and experiences in learning the culture of the communityUse technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication and ensure student engagement.Eagerly learn new uses and applications of technology toolsEstablish, nurture and manage student-directed classrooms in which students are working both independently and in groups, playing instruments, and using dance and movement to supplement and enhance the curriculumInstructional Delivery-Collaborate with classroom teachers to create interdisciplinary units that teach grade-level content knowledge and skills using SpanishPromote students' self-expression and exploration while deepening their knowledge and understanding of the Spanish languageIncorporate Hispanic history in ways that are engaging and meaningful to students and objectivesSpeak clearly, audibly, and fluentlyAdjust the teaching pace to assure maximum student understandingProvide appropriate remedial and/or enrichment material whenever necessaryStudent Assessment-Measure student achievement and progress towards learning objectives using the school's formative and summative assessment toolsProvide ongoing and timely feedback to students on their progress towards meeting expectations and achieving goalsUse student data to reflect on the effectiveness of lessons and student achievement progress to improve instruction and personal practice.Learning Environment-§ Create and manage a responsive learning environment that enables students to feel safe, be creative, and develop to their full potential§ Establish, model, practice, and reinforce age-appropriate rules and discipline using school-approved procedures; create and consistently use individual behavioral management plans as needed§ Implement classroom procedures, systems, and routines that provide structure for students and maximize instructional timeStudent and Extracurricular Activities-§ Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance classroom learning.Student Support & School Culture -Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administratorsEstablish, involve, and assist students in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of portfoliosDevelop and use rubrics for evaluating student products and performancesOversee and assist with student arrival/dismissalWork closely with all members of school community, model citizenship, collaboration, and support for one anotherOther tasks as assigned by the AdministrationAcademic & certification qualificationsBachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferredNew York State Spanish Certification - MUSTWork experience & skillsFluent in SpanishMinimum of two years of successful bilingual teaching experienceAble to create a highly efficient Spanish curriculum to be introduced and built on for increased fluencyPassionately dedicated to the school's mission with a steadfast belief that all students will receive a rigorous elementary foundationStrong analytical and problem-solving skills are required to develop rubrics examine data and metrics that will enhance student knowledge and promote the performance of superior work productsProven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with a diverse team of teachers and administratorsKnowledge of childhood development and demonstrated experience with executing planned lessons to meet the differential needs of each childStrong written, grammatical, presentation, and verbal communication skillsExperience working with an at-risk student population in some capacity preferredEducational experience after college (fellowships, summer study, or graduate course work to pursue greater depth in a subject area, specific instructional methodology, curriculum development, special education, technology, etc.) preferredWorking knowledge and comfort level with instructional technologyPersonal qualities & behavioural traitsPassionately dedicated to the school's missionA driven educator with an unrelenting focus on organization along with a high level of student and school-wide performance in achieving/exceeding state standardsChampions change, supports school leaders in trying to apply new ideas and methods;
