DPS recruits and commits to educators with passion who are aligned with our vision to aspire to advance all learners to their highest potential.</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>Danbury Public Schools is seeking a Self-Contained Special Education Teacher to instruct students with diverse learning needs in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher will support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students in a small-group setting. The ideal candidate is collaborative, flexible, dynamic, and student-centered, and is committed to building an inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement, independence, and high expectations. This role involves collaboration with families, colleagues, and support staff to ensure every student's success.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Provide Individualized Instruction: Deliver specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals using Connecticut State Standards and district curriculum in a small-group, self-contained classroom setting. </li><li>Plan and Implement Effective Lessons: Design and execute instruction that promotes academic achievement, communication, social skill development, and positive behavior. </li><li>Monitor Student Progress: Use diagnostic, formative, and specialized assessments to evaluate student growth and adjust instruction based on student needs. </li><li>Address Individual Needs: Implement accommodations, modifications, and strategies tailored to support each student's academic and functional development. </li><li>Foster a Safe Learning Environment: Create and maintain a classroom environment that encourages student engagement, independence, and emotional regulation. </li><li>Develop and Implement IEPs: Write and maintain high-quality IEPs informed by Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), student data, and collaborative team input. </li><li>Behavioral Interventions: Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and utilize de-escalation and physical intervention strategies as appropriate. </li><li>Assessment Compliance: Administer standardized and alternative assessments, including the State Alternative Assessment, as required. </li><li>Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student progress, IEP implementation, and compliance with state and federal special education regulations. </li><li>Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to support student learning and inclusion. </li><li>Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with families to build partnerships, share student progress, and ensure legal compliance. </li><li>Facilitate Meetings: Participate in and lead IEP, eligibility, and placement meetings to support student-centered planning and services. </li><li>Support and Supervise Staff: Provide guidance to paraprofessionals and collaborate with team members to address students' academic and behavioral needs. </li><li>Professional Conduct: Adhere to district policies, state regulations, and the professional code of conduct. </li><li>Attendance and Duties: Maintain consistent attendance, follow assigned work hours, and perform other duties as assigned by administration. </li></ul> <p>APPLICATION PROCESS:</p> <p>Apply online and include all required documentation at: www.danbury.k12.ct.us</p>
