Must be available to work additional hours as needed.</p> <p>Who May Apply?</p> <p>All persons legally authorized to work in the United States</p> <ul> <li>Multiple vacancies </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the City's gas distribution system.</p> <ul> <li>Keep crew truck clean and assist with inventory of parts and supplies to keep the truck fully stocked. </li><li>Cleans parts and tools and performs daily maintenance and/or calibration of equipment. </li><li>Use small hand tools, tapping, and stopple equipment. </li><li>Perform semi-skilled and common labor work such as paint and/or wrap pipe, cutting and threading pipe, pipe-fitting and assist in other pipeline maintenance as required. </li><li>Operate backhoe, trenching machine, winch truck, air compressor, dump truck and other semi-heavy maintenance and construction equipment. </li><li>Prepare tap cards and/or various inspection reports and documentation in accordance with Department procedures and/or regulatory requirements. </li><li>Inspect equipment and make adjustment and minor repairs to maintain equipment in proper operating condition. </li><li>Maintain map books. </li><li>Operate a 1 ton truck, 2 ½ ton crew truck, winch truck, dump truck, pickup truck, pole and float trailers, ditchers, air compressors, welding machine and equipment. </li><li>Install or repair mains, services and meter loops. </li><li>Check for stopped meters and houseline pressures using manometer. </li><li>Conduct pressure tests, purges and puts in service new and existing gas mains in the City Gas Distribution system. </li><li>Perform plastic pipe fusion with the use of poly fusion and electro fusion equipment. </li><li>Serve as secondary welder involved in the construction of gas distribution facilities. </li><li>Assist Foreman with pipefitting work, electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding. </li><li>Weld stopple fittings on gas mains and operate stopple equipment to make hot taps and/or valve off sections of pipe. </li><li>May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Requires High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Minimum of three (3) years of related experience </li><li>Must be certified as a competent welder by the Gas Department in both oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding or must be certified within six (6) months of hire. </li><li>Valid Texas Class A CDL required within six (6) months of hire </li><li>Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class A driver's license within 90 days of hire </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>The City offers an excellent benefit package that includes:</p> <ul> <li>Texas Municipal Retirement System - TMRS is a required retirement plan for all full-time employees.
