<p>Position Information</p> <p>Job Title PART-TIME FACULTY, PROFESSIONAL AND PUBLIC WRITING Job Description Summary, Duties and Responsibilities, Required Qualifications and Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>The search will remain open until the position has been filled. Applications received after July 1, 2024, may be reviewed depending on search progress and needs but are not guaranteed full consideration.</p> <p>_<strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>__</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>Qualified candidates who are not selected for employment for fall semester 2024 will have their applications remain active for one (1) year should a future opportunity arise during the 2025-2026 instructional year, September 1, 2025-August 31, 2026.</p> <p>The Department of Professional and Public Writing in the Harrington School of Communication and Media and College of Arts and Sciences seeks part-time faculty to teach on a per-course basis. Possible areas of instruction include first-year writing, professional writing, technical writing, and/or digital writing and rhetoric. All courses meet in-person and are at the undergraduate level.</p> <p>As the largest college at the University of Rhode Island, the College of Arts and Sciences brings together and supports undergraduate programs across the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The College facilitates students' development into leaders and global citizens who think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, and participate actively in local and global communities.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>A selected candidate will teach one (1) or two (2) courses in the Department of Professional and Public Writing. Part-time faculty are not required to engage in research or service activities but must hold regular office hours and be available to assist students enrolled in their courses. They are expected to stay current in their fields of instruction and with pedagogical methods and instructional technologies. Most courses are three (3) credits. In-person courses meet for approximately three (3) hours per week over the course of an approximately fourteen (14) week semester. Classes meet during the day at the Kingston campus.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Required:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Master's or doctoral degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Technical and Professional Writing, English, or a related field.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience teaching at the college level.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience teaching in one or more of the following areas: technical writing, professional writing, and/or first-year writing or closely related fields.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.</p> </li></ol> <p>_<strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>__</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>The University of Rhode Island is an equal-opportunity employer committed to the principles of affirmative action.
