<p>Loveland Living Planet Aquarium</p> <p>Education Assistant Manager</p> <p>Position: Education Assistant Manager</p> <p>Reports?To:?Education Manager</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The?Education Assistant Manager provides direct support to the Education Managers. The incumbent will serve as the primary communication channel between education leadership, other departments and the general education staff.? The Education Assistant Manager will provide clear, consistent, and participatory support for the education team. In addition, the assistant manager is responsible for supporting the supervision of the day-to-day programs and team members in the educational efforts for the aquarium. The Education Assistant Manager supports the training of the Aquarium Educators to deliver unique, interesting, fun, educational, and empathy building programming. The Education assistant manager also works closely with the entire Education Leadership Team to ensure high quality programming for all audiences.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in biological science, education or a related field</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in STEAM programming delivery and development</p> </li></ul> <p>Critical Skills/Competencies:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Dynamic public speaking skills and an outgoing personality</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to quickly learn complex, factual information and then communicate it to a wide variety of age groups in an engaging and creative manner</p> </li><li> <p>Must communicate and interact effectively and positively with students, teachers, guests, colleagues, and supervisors</p> </li><li> <p>Comfortable with animal handling that includes tarantulas, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and insects</p> </li><li> <p>Must model the expected behavior of the team to include the "5 Keys of Aquarium Success"- Safety, Courtesy, Show, Education and Efficiency</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of scientific processes, marine biology, zoology, and/or ecology with a desire to remain a "lifelong learner"</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to operate company vehicles and follow vehicle protocol - must keep a favorable driving record and be willing to permit a periodic review of your driving record, if necessary</p> </li><li> <p>A valid Utah driver's license is required</p> </li><li> <p>Spanish language skills preferred</p> </li><li> <p>The employee is expected to adhere to all policies and to act as a role model in the adherence to the policies</p> </li><li> <p>Support the supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Education team, particularly in regards to the daily staffing schedule, exhibit & animal status, and staff well-being</p> </li><li> <p>Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to Aquarium Educators in regards to programming, interacting with visitors, and protocols/procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Create new training for the Education Department</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with professional development to include presentation practice, skill development, project development, and animal handling</p> </li><li> <p>Regularly collect formal and informal observations and evaluations of the staff, as well as Education Department data.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other duties as assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assist with the management of the Education team to ensure that oversight is consistent and fair to include timesheet approval each pay period</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate with the Education team in a timely, professional and efficient manner</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with coaching, mentoring, and training within the Education Department</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports as well as with the Education Manager assigned to allow the opportunity for staff to voice their concerns</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with record keeping, scheduling and observations with the Animal Ambassador Team</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in leading regular huddles for the Education Department, including keeping an agenda and notes from these meetings, as assigned</p> </li><li> <p>Provide regular evaluations of the Education team's teaching skills during programs and identify their strengths and weaknesses - highlight their strengths and find ways to nurture their weaknesses to develop well rounded and confident presenters</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure that education program materials are in good repair and replaced/updated proactively</p> </li><li> <p>Address conflict among staff in a timely and pro-active manner - solicit support from the Education Manager, and others when needed</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor attendance for the Education team as assigned and notify the Education Manager in the event concerning patterns are developing with individuals</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as an active participant, including getting staff feedback from the team, for the planning, development and implementation of the new science learning center</p> </li><li> <p>Perform?other duties as assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>Scope of Position:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Schedule includes weekends, evenings, and holidays (excluding Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day)</p> </li><li> <p>Shift times vary</p> </li><li> <p>Some travel may be required</p> </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands of the Job:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Periods of standing and walking</p> </li><li> <p>Presenting while holding animals up to twenty pounds</p> </li><li> <p>Talking on a phone and communication via text, talk, and email</p> </li><li> <p>Extended?periods of sitting with data entry</p> </li></ul> <p>Special Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>Overall work environment while performing this job includes exposure to weather conditions and the noise level is usually moderate </li></ul> <p>While this job description attempts to describe the essential functions of the position, it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
