<p>Position Title: Special Education Teacher</p> <p>Reports to: Principal</p> <p>FSLA:</p> <p>Summary of the position: To guide student toward the fulfillment of their intellectual, physical, and psychological potential.</p> <p>Qualifications: Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education. Ability to plan and organize. Skills in human relations. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents. Five years of successful teaching experience. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.</p> <p>Supervises: Any person specifically assigned to him/her by the Principal (for example: a student teacher)</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Classroom Planning, Instruction, and Management: </li><li>Personalizes instructional materials in advance and shows written evidence of preparation. </li><li>Secures and prepares instructional materials in advance and shows written evidence of preparation. </li><li>Plans purposeful assignments for substitute teachers, teacher assistants, and student teachers when applicable. </li><li>Assists in the evaluation, selection, and requisition of books, equipment, audio-visuals, and other supplementary materials. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter. </li><li>Diagnoses and develops plans for the learning problems of students appropriate to the level of achievement. </li><li>Refers students to specialists when deficiencies are detected or suspected. </li><li>Implements all curriculum programs in a positive and efficient manner. </li><li>Participates in curriculum development appropriate to the assignment. </li><li>Establishes clear objectives for all learning experiences and communicates these objectives to students. </li><li>Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with students. </li><li>Makes use of a variety of resources, materials, and methods in an effort to improve the effectiveness of instruction. </li><li>Speaks clearly using fluent and appropriate language in modulated tones. </li><li>Student assessment is done regularly, is aligned with instructional objectives, and is clearly communicated to students, parents, and administrators. </li><li>Exhibits interest in what is being taught and in the needs of the student. </li><li>Effectively communicates with colleagues, students, and parents. </li><li>Promptly and accurately handles routine matters involving reports, records, and money. </li><li>Takes all necessary precautions to protect and maintain facilities, equipment, and materials. </li><li>Returns materials to their assigned place or designated personnel promptly after use. </li><li>Emphasizes and enforces safety factors within the classroom, building, and throughout school. </li><li>As an extension of classroom management responsibilities, supervises students throughout the school as assigned or as circumstances require. </li><li>Maintains a disciplined atmosphere appropriate to the teaching environment. </li><li>Maintains a practice of good housekeeping for self and students to enhance the learning environment. </li><li>Establishes reasonable classroom rules with consistent enforcement occurring in a positive way. </li><li>Starts class on time, get students on tasks, and makes maximum use of instructional time. </li><li>Staff Relationships: </li></ul> <p>o Assists in the implementation of policies and/or regulations that are established by the School Board.</p> <p>o Attends and participates in staff meetings and serves on staff committees.</p> <p>o Adheres to administrative regulations and directives.</p> <p>o Cooperates with administrative and supervisory staff in the evaluation process.</p> <p>o Established and maintained cooperative relations with co-workers.</p> <ul> <li>Professionalism </li></ul> <p>o Demonstrates professional ethics in activities in school and community.</p> <p>o Demonstrates respect for the worth and dignity of each student.</p> <p>o Engages in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework.</p> <p>o Assists in the planning and/or sponsorship of co-curricular activities.</p> <p>o Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes.</p> <p>o Cooperates with community agencies as they pertain to classroom activities.</p> <p>o Demonstrates a positive view of the philosophy and objectives of the school to parents and community.</p> <p>o Abides by adopted Board of Education policies and procedures.</p> <p>o Maintains satisfactory records of punctuality and attendance.</p> <p>o Conducts all school-related activities in a manner that serves as a positive influence on youth.</p> <p>Special Considerations: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or fall objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. This benefit does not cost our employees anything, our school board is very generous and contributes 11.2% of your annual income into the pension, and 3% into the annuity.</p>
