<p>Supervises and evaluates paraprofessional and professional staff at branch location. Assists in the planning and implementation of all branch activities and monitors and oversees all aspects of circulation and branch functions. All library staff are expected to use quality customer service with both internal and external customers.The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but shall not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.</p> <ul> <li>Explains and interprets Hernando County Policies and Hernando County Public Library System policies and procedures to staff and patrons. </li><li>Works in collaboration with internal and external customers (staff, county departments, vendors and public) to fulfill the library mission. </li><li>Acts as front line person for communicating and enforcing library and county policies. Works with individuals to resolve problems. Assists in difficult service interactions. </li><li>Monitors and oversees all aspects of the branch library's functions which includes reference, programs, circulation functions and day to day operations. </li><li>Trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates branch staff; trains, schedules and coordinates volunteers; may cross train non-circulation staff in circulation functions. </li><li>Conducts reference interviews, assists public in locating and selecting materials, instructs customers in the use of library materials and technology, answers questions at public service desks, on the telephone, and via email. </li><li>Compiles and organizes ongoing daily, monthly, and yearly branch statistics and prepares reports, including weekly bank deposits and financial reports. </li><li>Responsible for management of library inventory at assigned branch. </li><li>Monitors security and maintenance of the facility and places work orders as necessary. </li><li>Provides training and guidance to staff; reviews and informs staff of new resources, programs, services, policies, procedures, and other important communications. </li><li>Participates in programming and outreach events; promotes community awareness of library resources, services, and programs; ensures staff participate in events and promotion. </li><li>Models quality customer service behaviors, actively pursues improvement in customer service delivery, including actively greeting customers, observing and responding to their needs, and creating an environment of friendly and active engagement with customers. </li><li>Conducts and attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and one-on-one meetings. </li><li>Promotes understanding of library collections and resources and may conduct branch tours. </li><li>Regular attendance and availability during all operating hours, with the ability to work at any Hernando County Public Library System location. </li></ul> <p>Marginal / Secondary Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Shelves library materials </li><li>Registers new voters for the Supervisor of Elections Office </li><li>Assists patrons with the library's automated circulation system </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other management personnel </li></ul> <p>Emergency Response</p> <p>County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master in Library Science Degree required with five (5) years of progressively responsible library experience. </li><li>Five (5) years experience in the delivery of library services with demonstrated supervisory ability required. </li><li>Minimum of four (4) year of supervisory experience required. </li></ul> <p>Licenses, Certifications or Registrations</p> <ul> <li>Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License and be insurable by current insurance carrier. </li></ul> <p>A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.</p> <p>Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Complete necessary certifications for NIMS compliance </li></ul> <p>Required Competencies</p> <ul> <li> <p>Knowledge of</p> </li><li> <p>acceptable levels of performance by employees in various positions</p> </li><li> <p>the library system's collection, including basic reference sources, databases, eBooks, downloadable materials, and other electronic resources</p> </li><li> <p>Hernando County Public Library System routines, procedures, policies, mission, goals and objectives</p> </li><li> <p>the professional practices, procedures, techniques and tools of library service, including library automation systems and applications</p> </li><li> <p>of professional library principles, methods and materials and attention to current trends and technologies</p> </li><li> <p>effective training techniques, supervisory principles, and considerable knowledge of customer service principles and techniques</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to</p> </li><li> <p>instruct and train staff and patrons in library resources and technology</p> </li><li> <p>perform reference, reader's advisory and other professional level library work</p> </li><li> <p>develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with professional and clerical library staff, library customers, representatives of other agencies, and to work with others in a group</p> </li><li> <p>effectively express ideas and information verbally and in writing and to communicate effectively with a diverse population</p> </li><li> <p>work as an effective team member with an excellent customer service attitude</p> </li><li> <p>utilize library automation systems and other related software</p> </li><li> <p>promote the use of library resources and programs through effective communications</p> </li><li> <p>organize and compile data and to communicate data and information to others</p> </li><li> <p>creatively solve problems and negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner</p> </li><li> <p>to interpret and apply Hernando County Public Library System policies and standards</p> </li><li> <p>access, input or retrieve information from a computer</p> </li><li> <p>Skilled in</p> </li><li> <p>organizing and supervising the work of others</p> </li><li> <p>using the library's collection to locate needed information for users</p> </li><li> <p>operating computers, tablets, e-Readers and other digital devices;
