<p>Under the close supervision of the Facilities Maintenance and Collection System Supervisors these summer assistant positions provide an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while making a meaningful impact on our organization and local communities by helping to protect and improve water quality.</p> <p>For all positions at the District, enhanced safety precautions are in place for essential operations. These summer assistant positions require work mainly in the field environment with some daily office work.</p> <p>Facilities Maintenance Assistant (2 Positions)</p> <ul> <li>Landscaping and lawn maintenance </li><li>Painting </li><li>Treatment tank maintenance </li><li>General maintenance including custodial duties </li></ul> <p>Collection System Services Assistant (1 Position)</p> <ul> <li>Assist with daily sampling route </li><li>Perform manhole inspections </li><li>Data Entry </li><li>Perform general sewer and manhole maintenance </li></ul> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Experience using effective communication skills to understand and carry out written and oral instructions </li><li>Experience working well with others including supervisors, fellow employees, and the public </li><li>Valid driver's license </li><li>Experience being reliable at meeting adequate attendance, including punctuality and reliability </li><li>Strong awareness of safety precautions, including care operating equipment </li></ul> <p>Work is performed inside and outside the wastewater treatment facilities and at remote lift stations, with exposure to potentially harmful atmospheres, confined spaces, extreme weather, raw wastewater, biosolids, slippery and dusty conditions. Working conditions include frequent demanding physical activity and mental concentration on a wide variety of tasks.</p> <p>Must be able to work safely with, and in close proximity to, operating mechanical devices with a potential for serious injury present, for many hours each day. Must be comfortable working in traffic and around machinery. Requires the use of light hand tools and heavy power tools. Must be able to occasionally lift loads up to 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, crawl, sit, twist, turn, climb ladders, work from scaffolding or lifting equipment, and work in very awkward positions for extended periods</p> <p>.</p> <p>These positions will require on-site attendance and the district will provide training and experience including the necessary safety training for duties. Positions require ability to work full-time ideally between April through October, however College Students seeking Summer work are also encouraged to apply. Work hours will be between 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.</p> <p>The level of risk is such that it requires close attention to work details; adherence to safety programs and procedures; and use of personal protective equipment to prevent accidents or injuries. It also requires the necessary speaking and hearing ability to communicate in person, publicly, or over the phone. The noise level varies from quiet to loud.</p>
