<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Position Purpose</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the School Principal and/or the Director of Pupil and Special Education Services, and in collaboration with the Special Education Reading Curriculum Leader, the primary purpose of this position is to support and enhance the learning experience of students with special needs. This includes fostering growth in reading, academic performance, social-emotional development, and interpersonal skills. The educator will implement district-approved curriculum, monitor and document student progress and data, address individualized student needs, and ensure a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Provide specialized instruction and implement accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). </li><li>Deliver explicit reading instruction to middle school students performing three or more years below grade level. </li><li>Manage a caseload of special education students, ensuring compliance with IEP goals, progress monitoring, and service delivery. </li><li>Administer and interpret diagnostic assessments and standardized evaluations for initial referrals, program diagnostics, and triennial reevaluations. </li><li>Facilitate Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings in collaboration with families, staff, and related service providers. </li><li>Assist in the development and revision of IEPs to ensure that they are individualized, measurable, and aligned with student needs. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties:</p> <p>Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Director of Pupil and Special Education Services.</p> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.</p> <p>Equipment:</p> <p>Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.</p> <p>Travel Requirements:</p> <p>Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.</p> <p>Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, assessment methods, and evidence-based instructional practices that support students with diverse learning needs. </li><li>Knowledge of and/or a strong desire to learn structured literacy approaches to reading instruction, with an understanding of their importance in supporting students with language-based learning difficulties. </li><li>Proficiency in differentiated instruction tailored to individual student learning styles and needs. </li></ul> <p>Ability to analyze student data using information systems and translate findings into actionable instructional strategies and individualized support plans.</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws, including regulations related to students with disabilities (e.g., IDEA, Section 504). </li><li>Proficiency in the use of computer systems, educational software (CT SEDS), and technology tools to enhance instruction and manage student data. </li><li>Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks efficiently. </li></ul> <p>Effective communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and related service providers.</p> <ul> <li>Commitment to ongoing professional development, including engagement in self-reflection and performance-based growth. </li></ul> <p>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships within the school community and beyond.</p> <p>Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:</p> <p>Works in standard office and school building environments.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>CT Certification (165)</p> <p>Apply online - www.windsorct.org</p>
