To learn more about what the City has to offer please click here.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>SALARY: $73,520 - $90,420</p> <p>Bargaining Unit: BAETI</p> <p>To view the respective collective bargaining agreement please click here.</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Works under the general direction of the Superintendent of Buildings and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and local ordinances; reviews all unusual problems or situations with the Superintendent of Buildings prior to taking any required action.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Performs inspection and administrative work in connection with the enforcement and interpretation of applicable codes relating to electrical wiring and systems </li><li>Conducts inspections of wiring for heat, light, power, fire alarms, burglar alarms, telecommunications, computer and cable TV in all private and public buildings in the City </li><li>Conducts inspections in housing units, multiple occupancy dwellings, industrial and commercial structures </li><li>Responds to complaints and takes appropriate measures to correct unsafe or unlawful conditions </li><li>Investigates structure fires for electrical cause and origin </li><li>Provides information and technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, electricians, and other interested parties regarding proper design and installation of electrical work. </li><li>Performs similar or related duties as required, or as situation dictates. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE:</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <p>High school diploma with supplemental training in electrical wiring installations; five years of progressively responsible experience in electrical installation and construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</p> <p>Additional Requirements: Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician License; Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Electrical Code </li><li>Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical wiring and utility company requirements for electrical service </li><li>Knowledge of fire alarms and low voltage systems </li><li>Ability to enforce codes fairly and impartially </li><li>Ability to stay informed of code changes </li><li>Ability to plan, organize, and perform inspections </li><li>Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, the public, and City departments </li><li>Excellent communication skills and public relations skills. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>Moderate physical effort is generally required when conducting inspections. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, speak and hear, and use hands to operate equipment. Physical agility is required to access electrical wires. The employee is required to lift objects weighing up to thirty pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents and operate a motor vehicle and other equipment.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>Some work is performed in office conditions; most work is performed in the field, with exposure to variable weather conditions and the hazards associated with construction sites, wiring, and job-site equipment; may be required to wear protective clothing. Operates standard office equipment and electrical testing equipment. Has frequent contact with the general public, other City employees and officials, contractors, homeowners, and builders. May have access to records of legal proceedings and bid documents.
