<p>We are seeking a Chiller Mechanic Apprentice to join our Federal Systems team at our Norfolk, VA location. At Johnson Controls Navy Systems, our field service team specializes in shipboard HVAC/R equipment and control systems. We understand the unique requirements, standards, procedures, and challenges associated with supporting the U.S. Department of Defense and its individual agencies. Our products are installed on more than 90% of the U.S. Naval fleet, as well as many on U.S. Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command vessels. These mission critical systems provide cooling for weapons, command and control systems, and crew comfort while enduring punishing conditions from weapons-effect shock, heavy-weather, ship vibration, and extreme temperature variations.</p> <p>At Johnson Controls, we support our nation's most critical facilities, the people who occupy them, and the missions they enable. We help modernize U.S. military installations, Department of Defense and other federal agency facilities to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure.</p> <p>Pay: This is a Union negotiated hourly rate position</p> <p>Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment</p> <p>Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation per calendar year</p> <p>Company Vehicle: Requires additional background check to be able to drive a vehicle.</p> <p>As a Chiller Mechanic Apprentice, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for maintenance and service of Chilled Water Air Conditioning Plants, Refrigeration Systems and other large associated equipment for U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard vessels. </li><li>Completes assigned maintenance and service duties; inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, repair and preventive maintenance of commercial and </li></ul> <p>industrial HVAC equipment.</p> <ul> <li>Troubleshoots and resolves primarily HVAC mechanical problems, as well as some electrical and controls problems. </li><li>Responds to service & warranty calls. </li><li>Inspect, diagnose, service and repair mechanical systems using a variety of tools and instruments. </li><li>Perform specified preventative maintenance including belt adjustments, oiling, greasing and cleaning of equipment. </li><li>Perform prescribed non-destructive tests; collect and deliver samples for analysis </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>5+ years of commercial and/or industrial HVAC experience with mechanical troubleshooting and service experience. </li><li>Valid driver's license </li><li>Good verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Must be able to obtain and maintain required government clearances and other worksite specific badges. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with Navy marine service equipment </li><li>Chiller maintenance and service experience </li><li>Experience punching tubes and/or reclaiming refrigerant </li><li>Appropriate licenses to work with refrigerants, boiler and steam operational & service knowledge. </li></ul> <p>Who We Are</p> <p>The primary mission of Johnson Controls Navy Systems is to supply Chilled Water Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Systems and associated equipment to the US Navy and US Coast Guard.
