Position Overview The Field Technician IV is the highest-level field technician role, serving as a subject matter expert and team leader on complex engineering, environmental, and construction projects. This position requires mastery of advanced field testing, troubleshooting, compliance assessments, and technical reporting. The Field Technician IV is responsible for coordinating and leading field operations, ensuring regulatory and client compliance, and delivering high-quality results on challenging projects. This role provides leadership to junior technicians, supports project managers and engineers with advanced data interpretation, and acts as a primary client contact in the field. The Field Technician IV demonstrates expert knowledge of industry standards and serves as a mentor, trainer, and technical resource for the field services team. To learn more about the important work our Field Technicians perform, here's a short video: UES Field Technician Responsibilities Serve as a field operations lead, overseeing daily activities of field teams and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards. Perform advanced field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and environmental materials, ensuring accuracy and compliance with specifications, regulations, and client requirements. Analyze, interpret, and validate complex test results, preparing high-level technical reports and recommendations for engineers, project managers, and clients. Troubleshoot and resolve complex field issues, providing technical expertise and solutions to ensure project success. Act as a liaison between field teams, project managers, engineers, and clients, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution. Train, mentor, and evaluate Field Technicians I-III, providing coaching on technical skills, safety practices, and professional development. Lead implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, data accuracy, and field operations quality. Ensure all testing equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and functioning according to industry and company standards. Maintain strict compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols, conducting field safety audits and promoting a culture of safety. Manage and maintain assigned company vehicle(s), equipment, and field resources. Perform other duties as assigned to support company initiatives and project goals. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, geology, or a related field strongly preferred. 7+ years of progressive experience in field testing, construction inspection, geotechnical work, or a related industry. Advanced industry certifications required or ability to obtain, such as: ? ACI Level 1 Concrete Testing (Level 2 or Specialty certifications preferred) ? Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification ? Additional state or project-specific certifications (as applicable) Proven ability to lead teams, coordinate complex field operations, and serve as a mentor/trainer. Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software or similar tools. Strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills. Advanced ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints, specifications, technical documents, and regulatory standards. Demonstrated excellence in problem-solving, analytical thinking, and attention to detail. Physical ability to perform field tasks, including lifting 50+ lbs., standing for extended periods, and working in outdoor environments under varying conditions. Flexibility to work variable schedules, including early mornings, weekends, overtime, and overnight travel as required. Travel Requirements ? This position requires extensive domestic overnight travel 50% to 70% of the time, sometimes at short notice, to support business objectives and client engagements. Travel will be to job sites, working in various outdoor conditions, and adhering to company safety protocols. Physical Demands & Work Environment This position primarily works in an outdoor work environment, regularly exposed to varying field conditions, including: Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris. Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments. Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions. The physical requirements for this position may include and are not limited to: Ability to lift and/or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion. Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods. Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment. Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections. Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
