Therefore, we encourage individuals from all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences to consider employment with the City of Janesville and serve the residents of "Wisconsin's Park Place".</p> <p>OBJECTIVE:</p> <p>The employee in this position is responsible for marking, recharging, reviewing for damage and missing parts, and shelving Juvenile games, toys, kits, digital read-alongs, and other materials with multiple parts. This position may also shelve other Juvenile materials, pick up stray materials, maintain displays, and perform other clerical and program assistance tasks as assigned.</p> <p>RELATIONSHIPS:</p> <p>Reports to: Youth Services Librarian</p> <p>Has no regular supervisory duties.</p> <p>Has regular work contact with Youth Services Associates and Librarians, staff from other library departments, and the general public.</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <ul> <li>Gather returned materials from the Circulation Workroom. </li><li>Inspect returned toys, early literacy kits, and other Juvenile library multi-media materials to ensure that all pieces have been returned. </li><li>Charge and shelve Juvenile digital read-alongs. </li><li>Shelve toys, early literacy kits, and other Juvenile library materials quickly and accurately. </li><li>Collect strays and fill display stands and shelving face-outs. </li><li>Inspect and straighten shelves, putting materials in correct order by alphabetical or numerical markings. </li><li>Identify and properly refer materials in need of repair. </li><li>Answer basic directional questions from library users. </li><li>Refer questions (other than directional) to staff at the Children's Desk. </li><li>Perform other special projects and other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Two years of high school or equivalent and be eligible for a work permit. </li><li>Library experience preferred. </li></ul> <p>A candidate for this position should have thorough knowledge, skills, and abilities of the following:</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Library classification system. </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>Customer service and interpersonal communication. </li><li>Basic computer skills, including the knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. </li><li>Handling detail-oriented work. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Work 6 - 8 hours per week in 1 - 2-hour shifts </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff members, City division and department employees, and the general public. </li><li>Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor when dealing with the public. </li><li>Communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, and to follow verbal and written instructions with minimum supervision </li><li>Be reliable, steady, timely, and proactive in completion of duties. </li><li>Use tact, diplomacy, and good judgment to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under library policy. </li><li>Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures, and report all unsafe activities to the supervisor. </li><li>Interact with a diverse group of individuals. </li><li>Work effectively as part of a team. </li><li>Understand library numbering system. </li></ul>
