<p>Description:</p> <p>POSITION DESCRIPTION</p> <p>JOB TITLE: Dental Director</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Dental</p> <p>LOCATION: 1575 Blue Hill Avenue</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer</p> <p>TYPE: Full Time</p> <p>SALARY: Salary and benefits for this position are competitive and commensurate with experience.</p> <p>INDMCHCSJ</p> <p>SUMMARY</p> <p>The Dental Director provides overall management and leadership in the strategic design, development and management of the dental practice. The Dental Director is responsible for all administrative and management activities related to the delivery of dental care to Health Center patients assuring the adequacy of the dental care delivery system, monitoring provider coverage and productivity, directing integration with primary care services, monitoring the health center's component of the Quality Improvement System, and providing budgetary oversight.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>60% Direct Patient Care and Clinical Services </li><li>Provides and manages direct patient care, including intra and extra oral examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment while meeting the health center's minimum productivity standards (approx. 28 hrs. per week). </li><li>Maintains up-to-date dental records for patients using an electronic health record system. </li><li>Assures full compliance with productivity standards of all dental providers. </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>20% Supervision </li></ol> <ul> <li>Builds a sustainable infrastructure for dental health services, including integration with primary care services. </li><li>Provides overall supervision of all dental staff working directly with patient care services. Additionally, is responsible for supervising regular and rotating residents, house staff in-training, and regular and rotating dental students in-training. </li><li>Maintains a list of up-to-date requirements for the practice of dentistry. </li><li>Establishes training program to advance knowledge and clinical skill levels of dental staff. </li><li>Observes and assists staff members at work to ensure safe and ethical practices and to solve problems and demonstrate techniques. </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>15% Dental Operations </li></ol> <ul> <li>Monitors standards of performance and quality of patient care through a peer review system and ensures efficiency in dental practice management and integration with primary care services. </li><li>Initiates the development and review of the dental department budget and staffing patterns/needs appropriate for patient care and monitors revenues and reports on the productivity of the dental department recommending and implementing strategies and changes to enhance the dental program. </li><li>Develops and participates in all Quality Improvement activities relating to dental practice and ensures the dental component is in compliance with all regulations and standards (OSHA, AAAHC, CDC). </li><li>Develop goals and expectations for the department that are in line with MCHC principles. </li><li>Develop collaborative strategies to integrate oral health into primary care. </li><li>Assists all clinical staff with the daily operation of Dental Health Services including, but not limited to, patient flow, walk-in triage, and cross-coverage. </li><li>Oversees patient and provider scheduling, monitors provider productivity with weekly reports to the CEO, and ensures provider coverage for all scheduled dental sessions. </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>5% Coordination/Collaboration </li></ol> <ul> <li>Oversees the coordination functions between dental and patient billing services. </li><li>Participates in internal and external meetings to ensure appropriate coordination and collaboration for optimal patient services. </li><li>Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards by prescribing pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate. </li><li>Provides excellent internal/external customer service via telephone, fax or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their health care needs. </li><li>Maintains relationships with local dental groups, the School of Dentistry, dental societies, and consumer groups > Performs related duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer. </li><li>Must cooperate fully with MCHC's Corporate Compliance Program and performs all tasks as assigned by manager. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>A degree in dentistry from an accredited school of dentistry, MPH is a plus and a minimum of five years experience in providing clinical and administrative duties are required. </li><li>Must possess and maintain an active unrestrictive license to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. </li><li>Skilled in operating and supervising multiple operatory per provider delivery system; </li><li>Prior management experience preferred. Strong computer skills (Internet software, spreadsheet, word processing etc.); </li><li>Training skills a plus, demonstrated problem-solving and work flow management skills; </li><li>Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records. </li><li>Continuing dental education activities and credit hours must be obtained in accordance with the requirements of the Board of Registration in Dentistry of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
