<p>Job Description</p> <p>The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking a talented and creative Visual Arts Teacher to join our K-8 school community. This is a long-term substitute position to cover a maternity leave. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about arts education, committed to cultivating students' artistic expression, and excited to bring a dynamic, standards-aligned curriculum to life in ways that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and cultural awareness. This educator should be able to spark curiosity in young artists, celebrate diverse cultural perspectives, and nurture both technical skill and imaginative expression. The ideal candidate will bring imagination, initiative, and a love for teaching children through artistic exploration. We value educators who encourage students to experiment, take creative risks, and see themselves as artists.</p> <p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement a rigorous, engaging visual arts curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Framework </li><li>Teach visual arts classes to students in grades K-8, integrating age-appropriate skills and concepts in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and other art forms </li><li>Creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active participation, fosters creativity, and positive artistic exploration </li><li>Organize and maintain art materials, equipment, and the classroom studio space </li><li>Curate student artwork for school exhibitions, community events, and digital showcases </li><li>Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to integrate art into interdisciplinary projects and schoolwide initiatives </li><li>Developing and implementing engaging and rigorous lessons utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and resources </li><li>Differentiating instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of students and provide appropriate scaffolding and support as needed </li><li>Utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and resources to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes </li><li>Implementing effective assessment strategies to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly </li><li>Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues through clear communication and collaboration </li><li>Actively participating in professional development opportunities, department meetings, and school-wide initiatives to continuously improve teaching practices and contribute to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning </li><li>Performing other duties as directed by school leadership </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional practices and of current best practices in art education </li><li>Ability to integrate technology and digital tools into the arts curriculum </li><li>Passion for fostering creativity and building inclusive practices within the arts </li><li>Ability to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods </li><li>Strong classroom management skills </li><li>Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment </li><li>Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills </li><li>Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families </li><li>Reflective practitioner with a growth mindset and a willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of students and the school community </li><li>Massachusetts DESE educator license in Visual Arts (PreK-8) </li><li>Bachelor's degree </li><li>SEI endorsement </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience teaching visual arts across elementary and middle school levels </li><li>Master's Degree </li></ul> <p>Reports To</p> <p>The long-term substitute Visual Arts Teacher will report to the school building principal.</p> <p>The Public Schools of Brookline is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching or practice to the diversity and excellence of the PSB community.</p> <p>The Public Schools of Brookline is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
