<p>The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment.</p> <p>SWM-Landfill Engineering unite is responsible for the landfill closure, post closure care, and end use development of the 2,200-acre Fresh Kills Landfill (FKL) in Staten Island, NY. FKL consists of four landfill Sections (Section 2/8, 3/4, 6/7, and 1/9) and ancillary facilities including Leachate Treatment Plant and Flare Stations. The last phase of final cover construction was completed in 2021. Currently FKL is operating under Post Closure Care and End Use development phases. Landfill Engineering unit is seeking to hire a candidate to be part of the team in operating of the Fresh Kills Landfill.</p> <p>The DSNY is seeking a graduate level College Aide. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Provide administrative and technical support to staff in an engineering / technical environment </li><li>Participate field visit / inspection with project managers </li><li>Support special projects and research tasks as assigned </li><li>Assist with data entry, filing, and document management </li><li>Respond to phone and email inquiries professionally </li><li>Assist with scheduling meetings and maintain calendars </li><li>Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately </li></ul> <p>COLLEGE AIDE (ALL CITY DEPTS) - 10209</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>For Assignment Level I:</p> <p>Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.</p> <p>For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):</p> <p>Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.</p> <p>For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):</p> <p>Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.</p> <p>SPECIAL NOTE</p> <p>Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.</p> <p>Preferred Skills</p> <ul> <li>The ideal candidate should have a Civil Engineering/Environmental Engineering or Enviromental Science background and currently enroll in graduate school. - Excellent in communication, organization, and writing skills. - Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, AutoCAD programs - Process strong interpersonal skills and complete assignments efficiently. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
