<p>Position:</p> <p>Math Coach</p> <p>Cambridgeport School</p> <p>Cambridgeport School Community:</p> <p>At the Cambridgeport School, we believe that learning unfolds when we provide conditions in which children can explore, inquire, and shape their own understandings. Cambridgeport teachers and families work as a community toward ensuring success for every child. The school values the culture and beliefs that each child brings to the classroom, and teachers believe that children must engage with their world in order to make sense of it and build their knowledge. Each student is expected to take responsibility for their own learning, while collaborating, supporting, and respecting others.</p> <p>The structure of looped classrooms supports the Cambridgeport philosophy. Beginning in 1st grade, teachers stay with their class through the end of 2nd Grade. Students have a new teacher for 3rd and 4th grade, and spend one year with their 5th grade teacher. The strong bonds that form between teacher and students support a deeper level of understanding, learning, and engagement.</p> <p>The Role:</p> <p>The Math Coach will work collaboratively with teachers to provide instructional support, feedback and pedagogical content knowledge and planning for mathematics instruction. This position has the following major areas of responsibility:</p> <ul> <li>Work with school leadership, instructional leadership team, and education staff across department lines to plan and implement changes that improve the academic achievement of the students, with an eye toward equity, anti-racism, and advocating for those scholars most at risk for achievement gaps </li><li>Ongoing collaborative planning with teachers at both a team and individual level </li><li>Classroom teacher support/development </li><li>Facilitation of workshops and professional development </li><li>Participation in the school leadership team and development of school improvement plan, and district wide projects/efforts to include participation in periodic coach meetings </li><li>Implement math department initiatives </li><li>Support teachers to enact ambitious instructional routines by planning, co-facilitating, observing, and debriefing these routines </li><li>Analyze school math data and support educators in data inquiry cycle meetings </li><li>Support teachers in communicating with caregivers about MA math standards, CPS math curriculum as well individual scholars' achievement and test results. </li></ul> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Responsibilities include the implementation, support, and monitoring of the district curriculum and system of assessments, which align with state and national content and practice standards. The math coach should have a deep understanding of Mathematics as well as a wide range of mathematical approaches and representations that would support a standards based curriculum. Additionally, the coach will have a comprehensive understanding of lesson planning and design, which support teachers in meeting the needs of a diverse range of learners.</p> <p>Your Skill Set:</p> <p>As the incoming Math Coach you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Dedication to access and equity for all scholars to rigorous mathematical learning </li><li>A commitment to strong instructional and inclusive practices </li><li>Skill in facilitation of high performing teams </li><li>Knowledge of pedagogical practices across all content areas, including management </li><li>Experience in use of common formative assessments </li><li>Ability to provide professional development on the district implemented mathematics program and support to colleagues and families from a variety of backgrounds </li><li>Energy, a sense of humor, commitment to teaching all children, </li><li>Evidence of leadership capacity </li><li>Belief that all children and teachers can learn </li><li>Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university required </li><li>Massachusetts certification: Math Grades 1-6 required </li><li>Recent successful experience teaching mathematics in student-centered classrooms with inquiry-based methodologies in an urban, multicultural setting </li></ul> <p>How to Join Our Team:</p> <p>Please upload a resume and thoughtful cover letter, outlining how your skills, experience, and commitment to equity in education meet the qualifications of the position as well as stating how you heard about this opportunity.</p> <p>At the Cambridge Public Schools, we are committed to cultivating an environment where diverse perspectives and backgrounds are embraced, acknowledging that a team reflecting diversity of race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, age, gender, marital/domestic partner status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, and veteran status allows us to serve our communities better.
