<p>Long Term Substitute - .5 FTE Nurse</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor of Science in Nursing </li><li>CPR/First Aid Certified </li><li>Current Active Massachusetts Nursing License </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>MA DESE School Nurse Licensure </li><li>Pediatric experience </li><li>Experience in community health or a school setting </li></ul> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>The School Nurse for the Dedham Public Schools is a skilled professional who provides assessment and evaluation of the student's health and implements the delivery of health care to the student as determined by her professional expertise and experience.</p> <p>The School Nurse works closely with the Supervisor for Health Services and with the building Principal.</p> <p>This position is a part-time, school year position and is covered by a Collective Bargaing Agreement.</p> <p>The School Nurse is responsible for the planning, implementation, follow-up and statistical data-keeping for all state mandated school health screening programs:</p> <ul> <li>Physical exams in grades 4, 7, and 10 </li><li>Vision and hearing screening in grades K-12 </li><li>Postural screening in grades 5-9 </li><li>Height and weight measurement in grades K-12 </li><li>The School Nurse is responsible for communicable disease programs, including immunization recording, review and updating as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. </li><li>The School Nurse provides for exclusion and readmission of pupils for health related reasons. </li><li>The School Nurse provides health counseling and referral for students and staff. </li><li>The School Nurse is responsible for maintaining and updating cumulative student health records. </li><li>The School Nurse administers emergency care for school-related injuries and illnesses utilizing the standard procedures developed by the Health Services staff in accordance with recognized standards of nursing practice. </li><li>The School Nurse is responsible for acting as a liaison between school and home when there is a health condition causing a pattern of absences. </li><li>The School Nurse is responsible for obtaining parental permission and then informing appropriate members of the school staff of a student's health related issues. </li><li>The School Nurse provides health guidance and education to students, families and staff. </li><li>The School Nurse serves as a resource in the school health education programs as well as in community health education programs that serve students, families, and school personnel. </li><li>The School Nurse promotes a healthy and safe environment. </li><li>The School Nurse is actively involved as the health specialist in team evaluations and subsequent follow-up. </li><li>The School Nurse responds in a professional manner in accordance with state mandates to students as risk, including victims of child abuse and neglect, substance abuse, and adolescent sexuality and pregnancy. </li></ul>
