If you are viewing this posting through any other website (Indeed, ZipRecruiter, etc.), please visit our website to submit your application.</p> <p>Senior Electrical Technician</p> <p>Pay Range: $38.12 - $53.64</p> <p>NATURE OF WORK</p> <p>This is skilled work in the maintenance, repair, installation and troubleshooting of various types of electric metering equipment, street lighting, electric services, lift stations, civil defense sirens, traffic signals, transformers, substations, and related equipment.</p> <p>Work involves proficiency in several related utility service areas, with working conditions and degree of supervision differing according to the nature of the job assignment. The incumbent exercises technical independence in determining work methods and procedures and exercises considerable independent judgment in applying standard trade practices to the assigned task. Work is reviewed for adherence to established trade standards. Supervision of others is exercised in the absence of the technical supervisor. Supervision is received from an administrative superior.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:</p> <ul> <li>Tests, installs, and repairs electrical meters of various sizes and types; diagnoses problems and tests meters to determine source of malfunction; records results of tests and repairs; maintains stock of meters; wires new transformer rated meter devices. </li><li>Installs, maintains, and repairs electromechanical and electronic traffic signals and controllers and programs newer electronic controllers. </li><li>Installs, maintains and repairs streetlights, customer rental lights and control devices. </li><li>Maintains two-way radio systems and equipment. </li><li>Responds to electric service calls on an on-call basis; troubleshoots issues with the electric system. </li><li>Directly supports Advanced Metering Infrastructure system; installs and replaces metering equipment, performs necessary meter reads, maintains AMI system communication equipment. </li><li>Tests, maintains, and evaluates equipment performance using instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, and related gauges; operates and maintains electrical and electronic test equipment </li><li>Tests, maintains, and repairs transformers; samples oil for breakdown and PCBs; disposes of contaminated oil; maintains record of repaired and junked units; diagnoses problems with transformers and determines if they can be repaired/salvaged. </li><li>Tests, configures new transformers to stated requirements; may install metering on larger distribution transformers. </li><li>Equipment installation, maintenance, and repair of substations, water wells, sewer lift stations, and diagnoses basic </li></ul> <p>substation problems, reset breakers, civil defense siren, E.V. stations, railroad monitor, and fire department pre-emption.</p> <ul> <li>Installation, maintenance and repair of substation equipment and devices. </li><li>Installation, maintenance and repair of water well and sewer lift station equipment. </li><li>Installation, maintenance and repair of civil defense siren, electrical vehicle charging, railroad monitoring and fire department preemption systems. </li><li>Operates aerial and excavating equipment. </li><li>Assists all other City and Utility departments with facility electrical service and system repair, maintenance and installation. </li><li>Performs work as required and other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Considerable knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of electrical and electronic systems and devices of both secondary and primary voltage levels. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of electric meters and testing instruments </li><li>Considerable knowledge of electrical theory and electronics and the hazards and safety precautions of the work. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the electrical trades. </li><li>Knowledge of computer programming and traffic controllers. </li><li>Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs and adjustments. </li><li>Ability to interpret and work from schematics, sketches and diagrams. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain records. </li><li>Ability to supervise a small group of temporary workers. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. </li><li>Ability to work in outdoor and indoor environments under varying temperature and noise levels. </li><li>Work may involve some climbing, heavy lifting, and carrying of materials and equipment; may involve working in heavy traffic with hazards; may involve exposure to extreme heat, cold, and hazardous materials </li><li>Physical demands include climbing ladders, digging holes working from an aerial bucket, and lifting heavy objects. </li><li>Work is often performed in proximity to high voltage primary lines. </li><li>Considerable experience in electrical and/or electronic repair work. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from high school supplemented by vocational courses in electricity and electronics. Considerable experience in electrical and/or electronic repair work. </li><li>Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. </li></ul> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Employee must possess and maintain a valid Nebraska Driver's License when operating a vehicle. </li><li>A Nebraska State Journeyman Electrician's license is preferred. </li></ul>
