<p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Network Operations & Support</p> <ul> <li> <p>Support and maintain corporate and field network environments across:</p> </li><li> <p>Railroad offices, terminals, shops, and yards</p> </li><li> <p>Remote and mobile locations supporting rail operations</p> </li><li> <p>Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues impacting operational systems, dispatching, safety, and business functions.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as an escalation point for complex network incidents and outages.</p> </li></ul> <p>Cisco ISE & Network Access Control</p> <ul> <li> <p>Administer and support Cisco ISE for:</p> </li><li> <p>User and device authentication (RADIUS/TACACS+)</p> </li><li> <p>Wired and wireless access control</p> </li><li> <p>Integration with Active Directory and security policies</p> </li><li> <p>Troubleshoot access issues affecting office staff, field devices, and railroad operational systems.</p> </li></ul> <p>Cisco Umbrella & Network Security</p> <ul> <li> <p>Manage Cisco Umbrella DNS-layer security policies to protect users and devices from malicious or unauthorized internet activity.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with the Security team to:</p> </li><li> <p>Review alerts and reports</p> </li><li> <p>Adjust policies to balance security with railroad operational needs</p> </li><li> <p>Support roaming users and remote locations using Umbrella-based protection.</p> </li></ul> <p>Fiber & Physical Network Infrastructure</p> <ul> <li> <p>Support and coordinate fiber and structured cabling infrastructure across railroad facilities, including:</p> </li><li> <p>MDF/IDF closets at yards, terminals, and offices</p> </li><li> <p>Patch panels, switches, cabling documentation, and labeling</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate with contractors and vendors for fiber installs, repairs, and testing.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure facilities meet basic network standards for uptime and safety.</p> </li></ul> <p>Azure & Hybrid Connectivity</p> <ul> <li> <p>Support networking components related to Azure-hosted applications and services, including:</p> </li><li> <p>Site-to-site VPNs</p> </li><li> <p>Secure connectivity between on-prem locations and Azure</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with troubleshooting connectivity issues affecting cloud-based railroad systems.</p> </li></ul> <p>Cradlepoint & Cellular Connectivity</p> <ul> <li> <p>Deploy, configure, and support Cradlepoint LTE/5G devices used for:</p> </li><li> <p>Remote sites</p> </li><li> <p>Temporary locations</p> </li><li> <p>Backup connectivity for critical railroad operations</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor connectivity, performance, and reliability of cellular network solutions.</p> </li></ul> <p>Vendor Support & Cisco SmartNet</p> <ul> <li>Manage vendor relationships and support cases for network equipment. </li><li>Open and coordinate Cisco SmartNet tickets, hardware replacements (RMA), and support escalations. </li><li>Assist with hardware lifecycle planning and refresh coordination. </li></ul> <p>Documentation & Standards</p> <ul> <li> <p>Maintain clear, practical documentation including:</p> </li><li> <p>Network diagrams</p> </li><li> <p>IP address tracking</p> </li><li> <p>Site connectivity details</p> </li><li> <p>Basic troubleshooting and support procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Follow and contribute to change management practices to minimize operational risk.</p> </li></ul> <p>Collaboration & Leadership</p> <ul> <li> <p>Work closely with:</p> </li><li> <p>IT Infrastructure</p> </li><li> <p>Cybersecurity</p> </li><li> <p>Field Operations</p> </li><li> <p>Railroad leadership and site contacts</p> </li><li> <p>Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on standard network practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate clearly during outages or changes that impact railroad operations.</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>10+ years of experience supporting enterprise network environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Hands-on experience with:</p> </li><li> <p>Cisco ISE</p> </li><li> <p>Cisco Umbrella</p> </li><li> <p>Cisco SmartNet support processes</p> </li><li> <p>Fiber and wired network infrastructure</p> </li><li> <p>Azure networking (basic to intermediate)</p> </li><li> <p>Cradlepoint or cellular WAN devices</p> </li><li> <p>Strong troubleshooting skills in real-world operational environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to support business-critical systems where uptime and safety are priorities.</p> </li><li> <p>Comfortable working with vendors, contractors, and internal teams.</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience supporting industrial, transportation, railroad, or field operations environments. </li><li>Cisco and/or Azure certifications (or equivalent experience). </li><li>Familiarity with: </li><li>Remote site networking </li><li>Backup and failover connectivity </li><li>ITIL or structured IT support practices </li></ul> <p>Key Traits for Success at R.J.
