About Rockville's Public Art Programs

The City of Rockville has three Public Art Programs. The Art in Public Architectureprogram was established in 1978 and is funded by an annual percentage appropriated from the city's Capital Improvement Projects budget. The Art in Private Development Program followed in 2001 and requires qualifying development projects to make a required contribution by installing public art on site or supporting the arts and culture sector in several ways. The Art in Public Places program was adopted in 2003 and is meant to supplement the Art in Public Architecture budget through an annual appropriation. The Art in Public Architecture and Art in Public Places collections are managed by the city, while the Art in Private Development program requires developers to maintain the public art they install on site. An archive of the three program's historical documents needs to be created, with hard copies organized, digitized, and stored appropriately. An online database of the Art in Private Development Program also needs to be created for public awareness.

About the Archivist Position

Reporting to the Arts and Culture Program Manager, the position of Archivist is a temporary hourly position paying $33/hour for a maximum of 1,060 hours, or $34,980, for work completed by June 30, 2026.
