<p>Job Title: Lab Technician IJob Description</p> <p>Contribute to the department's ability to gain product knowledge on new or redeveloped tests and products. Support existing products through testing and investigation in a timely manner. Assist with projects by performing routine tasks and may be a part of more complex investigations in full compliance with current quality and safety standards.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Handle microbiological cultures, including bacteria and yeasts, using appropriate safety precautions. </li><li>Identify mixed cultures and escalate to appropriate personnel. </li><li>Fill culturing requests from the department. </li><li>Help with prep work and support various projects with ongoing activities in the lab. </li><li>Perform microbial testing using the VITEK 2 instrument in a timely manner. </li><li>Generate and review VITEK 2 data. </li><li>Communicate results or problems to supervisor or senior staff members. </li><li>Monitor instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. </li><li>Maintain internal documentation for all steps of the processes as outlined in SOPs. </li><li>Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts. </li><li>Coordinate work assignments and prioritize independently. </li><li>Participate in a team approach to maintenance of the lab. </li><li>Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. </li><li>Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Microbiology </li><li>Aseptic technique </li><li>Plating </li><li>Ability to acquire, learn, and perform new laboratory techniques </li><li>Analytical thinking </li><li>Collaborative attitude for department and inter-departmental activities </li><li>Ability to work independently as well as in teams </li><li>Good written and oral communication in English </li><li>Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) </li><li>Good organizational skills </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>6 months of aseptic technique experience from undergraduate labs </li><li>Basic lab safety and following lab procedures </li><li>Additional knowledge of plating, culturing, and identifying microorganisms is desired but not required </li><li>Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day </li><li>Background in Life Sciences (Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry) </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or some variation, starting as early as 6:00 AM and working as late as 6:00 PM. 50-75% of the time will be spent in the lab, with the remaining 25-50% dedicated to generating reports or entering data.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract position based out of Hazelwood, MO.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
