This role involves close collaboration with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to facilitate access to necessary medical services.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>PATIENT FINANCIAL COUNSELING</p> <ul> <li>Educate patients on their insurance benefits and financial responsibilities. </li><li>Assist patients in understanding and applying for financial assistance programs. </li><li>Provide cost estimates for medical services and procedures. </li><li>Acquires and maintains comprehensive knowledge and expertise in eligibility, enrollment, and program specifications for the federal Marketplace, as well as programs such as Medicaid/CHIP and local county indigent programs. </li><li>Proactively addresses patient concerns. </li><li>Communicates clearly and empathetically. </li><li>Ensures patient satisfaction with financial navigation processes. </li></ul> <p>INSURANCE VERFICATION AND AUTHORIZATION</p> <ul> <li>Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for services. </li><li>Obtain prior authorizations for medical procedures and treatments. </li><li>Resolve insurance-related issues and discrepancies. </li></ul> <p>FINANCIAL PLANNING AND COORDINATION</p> <ul> <li>Assist patients in completing the application and enrollment process for healthcare coverage. Facilitate the identification and collection of necessary documentation to accompany application submissions. </li><li>Develop and implement payment plans for patients with outstanding balances. </li><li>Coordinate with the billing and coding department to ensure accurate claims submission. </li><li>Address insurance and authorization issues with the billing team and escalate trends and root causes as needed </li><li>Identifies and resolves complex financial issues. </li><li>Tracks and follows up on pending authorizations. </li><li>Adheres to regulatory and organizational policies. </li><li>Coordinates with healthcare providers and insurance companies. </li></ul> <p>DOCUMENTATION AND RECORD KEEPING</p> <ul> <li>Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient financial interactions. </li><li>Document all communications with patients, providers, and insurance companies. </li><li>Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies. </li></ul> <p>PROCESS IMPROVEMENT</p> <ul> <li>Identify opportunities for improving financial navigation processes. </li><li>Implement best practices and streamline workflows to enhance efficiency. </li><li>Timely follow-up on pending external program applications </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field and 3 years of experience in patient financial services, insurance verification, or financial counseling within a healthcare setting OR High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience in patient financial services, insurance verification, or financial counseling within a healthcare setting </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in healthcare administration or a related field. </li><li>5 years of experience in patient financial services, with experience in a supervisory role. </li><li>Certification in healthcare access management (e.g., CHAM) or Certified Patient Navigator (CPN). </li></ul> <p>Salary Range</p> <p>$45,000 + depending on qualifications</p> <p>WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT</p> <ul> <li>Standard office environment </li><li>Repetitive use of a keyboard </li></ul> <p>Required Materials</p> <ul> <li> <p>Resume/CV</p> </li><li> <p>3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisor</p> </li><li> <p>Letter of interest</p> </li></ul> <p>Important for applicants who are NOT current university employees or contingent workers: You will be prompted to submit your resume the first time you apply, then you will be provided an option to upload a new Resume for subsequent applications.
