<p>Trekkers Counselor</p> <p>Counselors must love and embrace not only the camp environment but also the camp philosophy that campers come first, we work as a team, and summer is a time to play, learn, and grow. The primary responsibility of a Trekker Counselor is to manage a group of 15-20 middle school aged campers each day as they participate in various camp activities and events. Trekker Counselors are responsible for campers' physical and emotional safety and must ensure that campers feel supported and welcomed at all times. Each week, campers attend approximately 3-4 field trips around the area (typically within a 1-hour radius of Concord, MA) and will participate in camp activities on campus on Mondays and Fridays, including participation in a leadership and teamwork curriculum. Trekker Counselors must demonstrate a high level of trustworthiness and responsibility.</p> <p>Pay range: $15.00-$16.75/hour; pay rate based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position, consisting of up to 37.5 hours per week.</p> <p>Work Schedule:</p> <p>Monday to Friday, 8:30AM-4:00PM</p> <p>Program Date:</p> <p>June 15 - August 14, 2026</p> <p>Training Dates:</p> <p>June 4 & 5, 2026 @5:30PM - 8:30PM</p> <p>June 6, 2026 @8:30AM - 4:00PM</p> <p>June 17, 2026 @4:15PM - 5:15PM</p> <p>July 1, 2026 @4:15PM - 5:15PM</p> <p>Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. We value diversity and welcome candidates of all backgrounds to apply.</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>Human Services- Recreation</p> <p>Salary Grade:</p> <p>MISC 2</p> <p>Reports To:</p> <p>Camp Director, Assistant Program Director</p> <p>FLSA Status:</p> <p>Non-Exempt</p> <p>Appointed By:</p> <p>Town Manager</p> <p>Date:</p> <p>December 2024</p> <p>GENERAL SUMMARY</p> <p>Trekker Counselors manage a group of 15-20 middle school aged campers each day as they participate in various camp activities and events, including multiple field trips per week.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.</p> <ul> <li>Desire to work with campers aged 11-14 years of age in a dynamic outdoor camp environment with multiple field trips a week. </li><li>Provide mentorship to the campers through the consistent display of a positive attitude, high energy, enthusiasm, effective problem-solving skills, and professionalism. </li><li>Communicate effectively and frequently with the Lead Counselor, giving ample updates and reports on urgent camper concerns: camp behavior, safety, staff concerns, program elements etc. </li><li>Uphold the high standard of excellence set for camp staff and practice appropriate and professional boundaries. </li><li>Implement and rigorously adhere to the Behavioral Management Plan for campers and carry out relevant protocols to ensure a safe camp environment for all. </li><li>Practice excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. </li><li>Build relationships with campers and staff to foster friendly, supportive and nurturing group dynamics. </li><li>Maintain a practice of stewardship for recreation property including proper accounting and storage of all camp equipment. </li><li>Enforce rules, regulations, and policies to assure safety of all children and staff. </li><li>Other tasks as requested by Camp Director or Recreation staff. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. </li><li>An easy-going, fun-loving personality. </li><li>A desire and ability to work well in teams. </li><li>An eagerness to receive feedback and willingness to develop leadership skills. </li><li>A tremendous work ethic. </li><li>Ability to work autonomously as well as take action as needed. </li><li>Confidence and positive presence in both group and one-on-one settings. </li><li>A personality and character that exudes leadership, flexibility, trustworthiness, creativity, energy, inspiration and positivity. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; Associate degree (or pursuit of a degree) in the fields of Education, Recreation, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Physical Education, or similar fields, preferred. </li><li>Prior experience working at a summer camp, preferred. </li><li>Previous work with middle school or high school students, especially 7th and 8th graders. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must be 18 years of age or older. </li><li>CPR and first aid certified (certification available during staff training). </li><li>Must be available to work entire camp season, including staff training. </li><li>Must be comfortable with walking long distances, long bus rides, and being outside for the majority of the day. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the physical demands (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.</p> <p>Work is performed primarily outdoors during the summer months. May be subjected to moderate variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc. Work may be performed indoors in a relatively noisy work environment, with constant interruptions. Frequently subjected to the demands of other individuals and the volume and /or rapidity with which tasks must be accomplished.</p> <p>Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
