<p>The Library Assistant I position requires exemplary customer service skills and a commitment to outstanding service.</p> <p>The Chesapeake Public Library (CPL) is seeking individuals with a heart for the community who share our mission to build bridges to discovery through professionalism, collaboration, curiosity, communication, and solution focused service to join our team as a Library Assistant I.</p> <p>CPL prides itself on exemplifying the City of Chesapeake CARES (Courtesy, Attentiveness, Responsiveness, Empowerment, Stewardship) standards to our internal and external customers. The ideal candidate for a library position is someone with a commitment to service who possesses a growth mindset and is looking for a career focused on service to others.</p> <p>Responsibilities of the Library Assistant I include:</p> <ul> <li>Processing library materials </li><li>Assisting other Collections Management Services staff with receiving, inspecting, and sorting materials when needed </li><li>Shelving materials, shelf-reading, weeding, and performing other tasks related to routine collection maintenance, when needed </li><li>Assisting with programs and special events </li><li>Performing basic computer troubleshooting, including entering help desk tickets, as needed </li><li>Attending training to stay abreast of technology, programs, databases, services, and procedures </li></ul> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:</p> <p>Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:</p> <p>In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience in public libraries or customer service-related industry or volunteerism equivalent to 6 months' part-time work experience.</p> <p>SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:</p> <p>Requires a valid driver's license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or city-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>The ideal candidate is able to perform daily repetitive tasks with a high level of productivity. An attention to detail is imperative. The candidate is skilled at delivering excellent customer service to co-workers within the department as well as public service staff at the branches.</p>
