Job Summary

The BA + BFA in Integrated Arts Program at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing Lecturer position in the College of Arts and Sciences. This candidate will teach interdisciplinary arts courses that support integrated practices among students from a range of artistic backgrounds. Appointment to this position will be for a term of 2 years (4 semesters), beginning fall 2026, and will carry the title of Visiting Artist in Integrated Arts, BA+ BFA Program. The position will report to the Director of the BA + BFA program.

Responsibilities

Founded in 1833, Oberlin is a private four-year, selective liberal arts college near Cleveland, Ohio and is also home to an outstanding Conservatory of Music. Together, the two divisions enroll approximately 2900 students. Oberlin College was the first college in the US to make interracial education and co-education central to its mission. The College continues to view a diverse, equitable and inclusive educational environment as valuable to the excellence of its academic program. Among liberal arts colleges, Oberlin is a national leader in successfully placing graduates into PhD programs.

Oberlin is situated on the outskirts of Cleveland, combining a cozy small-town atmosphere with the cultural amenities of a major city. The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cinematheque, Karamu House, several educational institutions, and scores of restaurants, bars, music venues, and theaters add to the cultural and educational opportunities of the region. Park Arts, home to Oberlin's BA+BFA program, is located in the Cleveland Heights neighborhood of Cleveland, less than 2 miles from the afore-mentioned cultural institutions, and home to several of the city's best restaurants, movie theaters, and cafes.

Oberlin College BA+BFA in Integrated Arts

Oberlin College has a long history of excellence in the arts. The newly launched BA+BFA dual degree program combines the rigor of an arts school with the well-rounded, interdisciplinary education of a liberal arts college. Oberlin's five-year program serves as a launch pad for today's "thinking artists," who are becoming increasingly important in our 21st-century visual culture.

Students earn two degrees in five years: a BA in a major of their choice, either outside of the arts (i.e. psychology, politics, environmental studies, etc.), or within the practicing arts (i.e. theater, dance, studio art, creative writing, music, cinema and media); and a BFA in integrated arts. The BFA in Integrated Arts allows each student to carve a bespoke path through the curriculum to support interdisciplinary practices across the arts. Students may pursue studies across theater, dance, cinema & media, studio art, creative writing, and music in any combination they want- along with studies across the liberal arts- to support their unique practices.

During the first four years, BA+BFA students complete their BA requirements in whatever field they choose on the Oberlin campus. They simultaneously complete 10 courses across the arts, in any combination (dance, theater, studio art, cinema and media, creative writing, and music), along with a required integrated arts workshop during the junior year. Students work with professors and peers to develop a proposal for a major project to undertake in their fifth year.

During the fifth year students live and work at Park Arts in nearby Cleveland, Ohio, where students and faculty have 24-hour access to private studios, rehearsal spaces, theaters, and production facilities.
