<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The plumber is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems, including pipes, valves, fittings, pumps, drainage systems, and fixtures at the College. Duties include assessing system conditions, preparing work areas, selecting materials, and performing installations or repairs using various tools. Work involves reading blueprints, ensuring compliance with codes, and conducting routine inspections, including tasks on elevated structures.</p> <p>Position responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Evaluate the condition of plumbing systems and fixtures to identify issues or required maintenance. </li><li>Set up the project area and ensure all tools and materials are ready. </li><li>Calculate the materials and tools necessary for repairs or installations. </li><li>Choose suitable materials, including copper, iron, steel, plastic, fiberglass, and ceramic. </li><li>Follow blueprints or supervisor instructions to complete tasks. </li><li>Handle materials such as metals and plastics used in plumbing systems. </li><li>Operate tools like wrenches, screwdrivers, soldering equipment, plumbing snakes, and press equipment for installations and repairs. </li><li>Perform tasks on ladders, scaffolding, roofs, or other elevated locations. </li><li>Verify progress to ensure compliance with codes and project specifications. </li><li>Conduct regular inspections of plumbing and drainage systems for functionality and safety. </li><li>Perform light carpentry; (opening and patching walls, floors and ceilings, etc.). </li><li>Support other facilities employees with College daily tasks. </li><li>Other duties/tasks as assigned or required. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma required; Associate's degree preferred. </li><li>10-hour OSHA certification completed. </li><li>Knowledge of hand tool safety, portable power tools, stationary power tools, fall protection, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, ladder and scaffold safety, excavation, material handling, overhead lifts, and daily site cleanup protocols. </li><li>Capable of lifting over 75 lbs., bending, and moving heavy equipment. </li><li>On-call availability for emergency situations. </li><li>Comfortable working in diverse environmental conditions, including outdoor weather extremes, indoor settings, and areas with significant heat or cold. </li><li>Possession of a valid driver's license. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Dean College is an equal-opportunity, Title IX institution and pledges to recruit, select and promote diversity by providing equality of opportunity in higher education for all persons, including faculty and staff with respect to hiring, continuation, promotion, and applicants for admission, enrolled students and graduates without discrimination or segregation.</p> <p>The College is interested in candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of colleagues, students, faculty, and community members.
