<p>GENERAL SUMMARY:</p> <p>Under general direction, responsible for the operation of one or more technical areas or shifts in</p> <p>a clinical laboratory. Prepares and maintains technical and operating procedures to meet</p> <p>accrediting and regulatory requirements. Responsible for staff recruitment, competency,</p> <p>engagement, and performance management. Evaluates and implements test methods in</p> <p>collaboration with medical and Technical Team leaders. Oversees supply chain requirements.</p> <p>Prepares financial forecasts for use in planning and uses metrics to manage service quality.</p> <p>Participates in developing and implementing system-wide standards for the Pathology and</p> <p>Laboratory Medicine Service Line.</p> <p>PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The duties and responsibilities of the supervisor encompass four major areas: Technical,</p> <p>Human Resources, Finance, and Quality Management</p> <p>Technical:</p> <ol> <li>Assures section compliance with accreditation and regulatory agency requirements, </li></ol> <p>including educational, competency, proficiency testing, and safety.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Oversees test performance characteristics, quality control programs, and resolves </li></ol> <p>problems.</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Maintains up to date technical procedures and validation testing. </li></ol> <p>Human Resources:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Interviews and orients new employees to maintain adequate staffing levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares performance management documents and ensures staff competency.</p> </li><li> <p>Actively manages employee engagement and the development of a favorable culture.</p> </li></ol> <p>Budget:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Provides information and forecasts for preparation of operating and capital budgets.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors operating budgets with timely attention to variances.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains supply chain to ensure expected consumables are available for service levels.</p> </li></ol> <p>Quality Management:</p> <ol> <li>Leads involvement in quality management activities including oversight of indicators, </li></ol> <p>metrics, and customer-supplier feedback. Understands service standards of customers.</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Uses quality tools to identify and correct defects and variation from standard work.</p> </li><li> <p>Engages technical and support staff to take the lead in identifying and resolving defects.</p> </li></ol> <p>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:</p> <ol> <li>Completion of an accredited Bachelor's Degree program in a chemical, physical, </li></ol> <p>biological science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Requires five years of experience, with progressive responsibility, in a hospital or clinical </li></ol> <p>laboratory setting including experience with laboratory accreditation.</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to oversee </li></ol> <p>laboratory functions.</p> <ol start="4"> <li>Must demonstrate proficiency with personal computers for word processing and </li></ol> <p>spreadsheets.</p> <ol start="5"> <li>Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal interactions. </li></ol> <p>CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:</p> <p>Certification as MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA), MLS(ASCP) or categorically in the primary area</p> <p>assigned.</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <ul> <li>Organization: Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit Main Campus </li><li>Department: Pathology-Fairlane </li><li>Shift: Day Job </li><li>Union Code: Not Applicable </li></ul>
