<p>ABOUT VOORHEES UNIVERSITY</p> <p>In celebration of its 125th year of existence on April 7, 2022, Voorhees College was renamed Voorhees University to honor founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wight. Voorhees University is a private, diverse, historically black, coeducational, liberal arts, baccalaureate degree-granting institution affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Located in rural Denmark, South Carolina, the University serves traditional and nontraditional students primarily from South Carolina and the southeastern region of the United States; however, seeks to expand our reach both nationally and internationally. Through this charge, greater emphasis will be placed on high performing learners, highly accomplished faculty and staff, an involved community, and a supportive and dedicated alumni base.</p> <p>Position: Director of Sponsored Research</p> <p>Division: University Advancement</p> <p>Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000</p> <p>FLSA Classification: Salaried, Exempt</p> <p>Position Type/Duration: Full Time/12 months</p> <p>Position Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday (some extended hours and travel may be required)</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <p>Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Director is responsible for:</p> <ul> <li>Researching and disseminating information on funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and corporations, including databases on funding opportunities. </li><li>Managing, promoting, and advocating for faculty research, with emphasis on effecting awards of grants and contracts. </li><li>Developing programs that will create faculty research groups and areas of research synergy appropriate for the pursuit of pertinent grants, especially in the areas of public affairs and the applied social sciences. </li><li>Providing technical assistance in program design, proposal development and grant writing, including budgeting, and faculty, staff, and space requirements, etc. </li><li>Overseeing university recoveries of indirect costs. </li><li>Overseeing review of/reviewing appointment forms and/or or progress reports. </li><li>Developing funded student research opportunities and promoting student research. </li><li>Developing productive relationships with program officers. </li><li>Overseeing a staff of four who coordinate pre- and post-award actions and overseeing all post-award activities. </li><li>Serving as liaison with Research Foundations/Grants/Sponsored Programs in monitoring and reporting post-award and compliance matters. </li><li>Working with faculty and administration efforts in institutional program development. </li><li>Writes, reviews, and edits grant proposals; conducts library and electronic research; compiles data; inputs and retrieves data via computer. </li><li>Conducts research on potential funding sources; maintains contact with external agencies. </li><li>Works closely with faculty and staff in developing and transforming ideas into grant proposals; interacts with campus constituencies involved in grant-finding activities; serves as the director to grants, sponsored programs, and research to staff and administration. </li><li>Maintains comprehensive knowledge of particular areas involved in identifying and soliciting grants; may collaborate with various internal departments. </li><li>May coordinate project activities; prepares and processes letters and correspondence, presentation materials, and manuscripts; maintains funding opportunity databases, activity tracking system, and related confidential files. </li><li>Will serve as a Chair of the Sponsored Programs Committee, Budget Committee, and Strategic Planning Council. </li><li>Will assist with Program Title III Evaluations, budget assessment, and Strategic Planning. </li><li>Providing outreach and training to faculty and other university constituents on all matters pertaining to grant development and research compliance, the Director will also participate in efforts to strengthen the support for teaching, learning, and research in the University's schools, centers, and institutes. </li><li>Performs any additional duties that may be requested by the President of the University. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION</p> <ul> <li>A Bachelor's degree in business management, economics, finances or related area is required and eight years' related experience, as well as a thorough knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements and grant and contract management. </li></ul> <p>(a master's degree or certification in grant writing preferred).</p> <ul> <li>A Master's-level degree in pertinent area is strongly preferred. Mastery of computer applications and web-based tools; excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of federal regulations, STEM related programming, research; and record of contributing to the increase in funded research within an institutional setting. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Extensive knowledge of business and fiscal practices and procedures for colleges and universities. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of persons engaged in fiscal management and controls </li></ul> <p>APPLICATION INFORMATION</p> <p>Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.</p> <p>Please submit an employment application, cover letter detailing your interest and qualifications for the position, resume, and relevant transcript to apply.</p>
