<p>Summary/Objective</p> <p>The Substitute Teacher supervises students in the event the classroom teacher is unavailable to lead class. Their duties include managing classroom behavior, following lesson plans, and informing the classroom teacher following an assignment.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>For short-term substitutes: Follow provided lesson plans to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students. </li><li>For long-term substitutes: Develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with past lesson plans in keeping with student needs and abilities. </li><li>Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment. </li><li>Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student. </li><li>Supervise students in and out of the classroom. </li><li>Builds a positive and ongoing professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents/guardians, special service personnel, support staff, administrators, and visitors. </li><li>Performs other duties on an as-needed basis as determined by their supervisor. </li><li>Attend trainings and meetings provided by the school and Summit Academy Management. </li></ul> <p>Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Ability to interact in a professional manner with students </li><li>Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff and to effectively work with them in a collaborative manner </li><li>Must be able to maintain confidentiality of student records and school business </li><li>Must have strong organizational and communication skills </li><li>Must assist in remaining in compliance in matters monitored at the school, state, and federal level as appropriate. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibility</p> <p>None</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This job operates in a professional environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
