<p>DEPARTMENT: Public Safety & Justice Services, Division of Cuyahoga Emergency Communications System (CECOMS)</p> <p>ANTICIPATED WORK SCHEDULE: Individuals hired through this posting will be primarily assigned to 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.) or 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) REPORTS TO: CECOMS Operations Supervisor</p> <p>FULL TIME OR PART TIME: Full-Time</p> <p>REGULAR OR TEMPORARY: Regular</p> <p>BARGAINING UNIT: Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association (OPBA) CECOMS-Cellular 911</p> <p>CLASSIFIED OR UNCLASSIFIED: Classified</p> <p>FLSA: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>The CECOMS Division serves as the first point of contact for all 911 calls placed from cell phones located within the boundaries of Cuyahoga County. The agency operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The primary duty of the CECOMS Emergency Call-Taker is to confirm the location of the emergency incident reported in the 911 call and transfer the call to the proper municipal dispatch center for deployment of emergency response.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <p>Answers 911 calls placed from wireless devices. Verifies location of emergency incident and transfers call to appropriate dispatch center. Coordinates deployment of emergency radio resources to first responders. Monitors and relays information on local hospital capacity to first responders. Monitors for large-scale emergencies occurring in the County and broadcasts alerts to first responders, the public, and the media on incidents such as road closures, severe weather or missing persons (Amber Alert). Receives and verifies information regarding hazardous materials spill reports. Performs other tasks including, but not limited to documenting emergency incidents and 911 call statistics, per agency requirements; answering call center's administrative phone line; and periodically performing tests on equipment.</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>High school diploma and successful completion of two-year high-school career technical education (CTE) program in law enforcement or firefighting/emergency medical technician (EMT) disciplines; or high school diploma with three (3) years of clerical experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.</p> <p>Once hired, CECOMS Emergency Call-Taker employees must also fulfill additional criminal justice security requirements related to use of the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS). These requirements are set forth in Ohio Administrative Code 4501:2-10-03(C)(4).</p> <p>Application Process</p> <p>This is a competitive, classified position. The Personnel Review Commission (PRC) will check your application to make sure you meet the minimum qualifications. If you do, the PRC will invite you to take a civil service examination. The exam is specific to this position. Everyone who passes the exam goes on an eligibility list. To fill this opening, the PRC sends the hiring department and Human Resources (HR) a certified eligibility list with the top 25% candidates (or at least the ten highest scoring candidates, whichever is greater). HR helps the hiring department decide who from the certified list to follow up with for interviews and then a job offer.</p> <p>Most of our communication with candidates is through email.
