Duties include troubleshooting electrical systems, responding to service calls, and ensuring work complies with applicable electrical codes and safety standards across academic, residential, and support buildings.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Electrician, I</p> <ul> <li>Perform basic electrical maintenance, repair, and installation work on campus facilities including classrooms, offices, residence halls, and common areas. </li><li>Assist with troubleshooting electrical issues involving lighting systems, receptacles, switches, and low-voltage systems. </li><li>Replace lamps, ballasts, breakers, outlets, and fuses according to established procedures. </li><li>Read and follow basic blueprints, schematics, and work orders. </li><li>Use hand and power tools safely and appropriately. </li><li>Respond to service calls and assist with emergency repairs as directed. </li><li>Follow all safety protocols, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and OSHA requirements. </li><li>Maintain a clean and safe work environment. </li><li>Participate in on-the-job training and required safety or compliance training. </li><li>Document completed work in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). </li></ul> <p>Electrician II</p> <ul> <li>Independently perform skilled electrical work, troubleshoot complex systems, and support campus operational reliability. </li><li>Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems . </li><li>Troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution systems, motor controls, panels, and transformers. </li><li>Maintain and service emergency power systems, including generators and transfer switches. </li><li>Perform work in specialized environments such as laboratories, data rooms, athletic facilities, and residential buildings. </li><li>Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications accurately. </li><li>Coordinate work with other trades, departments, and outside contractors. </li><li>Ensure work complies with National Electrical Code (NEC), state regulations, and institutional standards. </li><li>Respond independently to after-hours emergencies and service disruptions. </li><li>Provide guidance and informal mentoring to Electrician I staff. </li><li>Accurately document work, materials, and labor in CMMS. </li><li>Support campus energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).</p> <p>Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:</p> <p>Electrician, I: Requires little to no related experience.</p> <p>Electrician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.</p> <p>Preferences</p> <p>Journeyman electrician license from the State of Utah or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).Experience with electric manholes and underground power distribution systems, proficiency in the use of the various types of electrical test equipment and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.</p> <p>The journeyman license is obtained through the completion of a comprehensive examination after the completion of a 4 year, 8,000+ hour accredited apprenticeship program. Dependent upon department of assignment, a valid Utah driver's license may be required. This position is not responsible for providing care to patients. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.</p> <p>Experience with VFDs and rebuilding motors is preferred. Experience with Lutron, Cooper, Douglas, and Greengate lighting systems is a plus</p> <p>Type Benefited Staff Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
