We offer a welcoming and inclusive workplace, recognizing the unique skills and experiences that military families bring."</p> <p>The City of Hampton is seeking a General Maintenance Mechanic to perform general maintenance activities in a variety of skilled trade areas to include electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating and air conditioning.  The class works under close supervision according to set procedures.</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED. </li><li>One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in at least one of the following maintenance areas: electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, or carpentry </li><li> Some experience and knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment required for the installation and maintenance of building components or closely related experience. </li><li>This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. </li><li> Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. </li><li>Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends. </li><li>The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules. </li></ul> <p>Click here for complete job description.</p>
