Learn more about Connecticut here.</p> <p>POSITION HIGHLIGHTS</p> <p>As a general recruitment, the Connecticut Careers Trainee will be recruited to work within the Identification Section in which is comprised of the Firearms/Toolmarks, Latent Prints/AFIS, Digital Forensic Unit, Multimedia and Image Enhancement, CGIC Intelligence and Lottery units.</p> <p>The Connecticut Careers Trainee program consists of a 2-year training program for those with a bachelor's degree listed in the minimum qualifications below. Those with a master's degree in a related field will participate in a 1-year training program.</p> <p>Note: Incumbents in this class may be required to travel to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Maryland to participate in external training following onboarding.</p> <p>In this role, you will conduct full-process examinations while working alongside lab professionals, forensic science examiners and will collaborate with law enforcement partners as needed. Training will include:</p> <ul> <li>Taking photographs of submitted evidence including firearms, ammunition, bullet and cartridge components; </li><li>Rendering firearms safe, unloading of firearms which may be comprised, unsafe or unfamiliar to other laboratory personnel; </li><li>Examining firearms for structural safety and condition before test firing; </li><li>Test firing firearms in water tank, cotton box, or at indoor or outdoor range; </li><li>Utilizing the NIBIN (National Integrated Ballistic Information Network) database and its acquisition unit along with other triage tools to establish links between crimes scenes for cartridge case evidence; </li><li>Utilizing comparison microscopes including virtual microscopes conduct comparisons of bullet or cartridges case evidence to each other and to test fired specimens from suspected firearms. </li><li>Recording of photographic evidence supporting comparison results for documentation and court display purposes; and </li><li>Perform related duties as requested. </li></ul> <p>This position is full-time on first shift, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and onsite.</p> <p>More details can be found in the class speci?cation here and the EXAMPLES OF DUTIES section below.</p> <p>ABOUT US</p> <p>DESPP is committed to protecting and improving the quality of life for all by providing a broad range of public safety services, training, regulatory guidance, and scientific services utilizing enforcement, prevention, education and state of the art science and technology. This division is divided into three analytical sections. They are the Chemical Analysis section (including toxicology, controlled substances, and chemistry), the Forensic Biology/DNA section, and the Identification section (including computer crimes).</p> <p>The laboratory also has two non-analytical sections which include: the Quality section and the Laboratory Support Services section (including administration, evidence receiving, and case management).</p> <p>Selection Plan</p> <p>FOR ASSISTANCE IN APPLYING:</p> <p>Check out our Applicant Tips on How to Apply!
