<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Middle / High School Choral Director</p> <p>Music: Choral Director</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Teach vocal music to students, including individual and group singing, music theory, sight-singing, and choral repertoire. </li><li>Develop and administer a vocal music curriculum aligned with state standards and district goals. </li><li>Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that supports creativity, expression, and individual growth. </li><li>Plan, organize, and direct student performances including concerts, school assemblies, and community events. </li><li>Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction. </li><li>Select appropriate choral literature to suit varying skill levels and performance settings. </li><li>Provide instruction in music theory, ear training, and vocal health. </li><li>Differentiate instruction based on student needs and learning styles. </li><li>Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress and adapt instruction accordingly. </li><li>Encourage and support student participation in district and regional festivals, competitions, and honors ensembles. </li><li>Collaborate with other educators, administrators, and arts organizations to promote music education. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grading, and performance assessment in accordance with school and district procedures. </li><li>Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student growth and program success. </li><li>Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties</p> <p>Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.</p> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.</p> <p>Equipment</p> <p>Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.</p> <p>Travel Requirements</p> <p>Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy, choral conducting, and music theory. </li><li>Knowledge of varied musical styles, historical periods, and diverse cultures. </li><li>Ability to teach and inspire students with differing musical experience and abilities. </li><li>Skilled in classroom and rehearsal management techniques. </li><li>Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with faculty, parents, and the community. </li><li>Proficient with digital tools and music education software. </li><li>Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs. </li><li>Effective communication and organizational skills. </li><li>Commitment to continuous professional growth and student-centered learning. </li><li>Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. </li><li>Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. </li><li>Ability to organize and coordinate work. </li><li>Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. </li></ul> <p>Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards</p> <p>Works in standard office and school building environments, including classrooms, performance spaces, and rehearsal rooms.</p> <p>Note: Also see the Summary of Physical, Sensory and Environmental Requirements Needed to Perform Essential Functions for this position.</p> <p>Qualifications Profile</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut State Certification (049: Music, PK-12) or equivalent endorsement in Vocal Music Education. </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. </li><li>Master's Degree in related area preferred. </li></ul> <p>Experience</p> <p>Successful prior vocal music teaching experience a plus.</p> <p>Salary Range: $49,151 - $97,255</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p>
