<p>Chesapeake Public Works - Engineering Division is seeking a goal oriented and dependable individual to perform essential services for City Surveying.</p> <p>The purpose of the job classification (class) is to support the City Surveyor and CADD Manager in the supervision of staff and management of daily survey operations. The job class is responsible for planning and executing survey projects, reviewing and validating survey data, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable standards and regulations. The job class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines; independently plans and implements projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.</p> <p>TYPICAL TASKS</p> <ul> <li>Supervises others including interviewing and selecting or recommending selection; training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and terminating or recommending termination of staff. </li><li>Administers the assessment and scheduling of survey requests, establishing priorities based on project timelines, regulatory requirements, and departmental goals. </li><li>Conducts property line and utility research; leads property line and utility investigations; develops outlines and checklists for collaboration with field crews and coordinators. </li><li>Oversees the preparation and review of exhibits, plats and property line calculations to ensure compliance with regulatory and City standards. </li><li>Coordinates with other City Departments to identify, assess, and prioritize survey requirements in support of City projects and initiatives. </li><li>Manages service contracts for surveying and drafting equipment; oversees vendor relations, budgeting, procurement, and maintenance of field equipment to support operational goals. </li><li>Assists in the maintenance of horizontal and vertical control networks to support accurate City-wide mapping, surveying, construction and engineering projects. </li><li>Investigates and responds to inquiries and concerns from the public, staff and other organizational agencies. </li><li>Performs in-depth analysis and validation of survey data. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>The City of Chesapeake offers an exceptional range of benefits. Please browse our Benefits Brochure, for a full list of benefits and employee perks.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Vocational/Educational Requirement: To be evaluated for the Assistant City Surveyor job classification, applicants shall possess the qualifications outlined in (1) or (2) below:</p> <p>1) Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in land surveying, engineering, or a closely related field.</p> <p>2) Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two years of related land surveying experience.</p> <p>Experience: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this job class requires a minimum of four years of related experience.</p> <p>Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Requires Commonwealth of Virginia designation as a Surveyor in training (SIT) or the ability to obtain the Virginia SIT license within one year of hire. Requires Commonwealth of Virginia licensure as a Land Surveyor is preferred. within one year of hire.</p> <p>Special Requirement(s):Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p>
