<p>The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of the Secretary exists to provide leadership and support services, administrative direction, and accountability for departmental programs; administrative direction and leadership to ensure the success of subordinate programs; and department-wide coordination, communication, personnel and basic resources needed to accomplish the department's mission.</p> <p>This Promotional opportunity is limited to current permanent status classified employees within the Office of the Secretary, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement, only. </p> <p>The Lieutenant will patrol public/private land and waters, including federal waters, using a variety of specialized equipment while enforcing laws, rules and regulations to protect and preserve the fish and wildlife resources and the citizens of the state. Will provide public safety services on the waterways of the state. May be assigned to work and coordinate investigations in an undercover or covert capacity and may be required to infiltrate illegal activities involving fish and wildlife or other operations under the jurisdiction of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service:</p> <p>Five years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.</p> <p>Possession of a current driver's license.</p> <p>Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.</p> <p>An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.</p> <p>NOTE:</p> <p>This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assists the boating Law Administration in planning, directing and supervising general and complex enforcement activities of department boating crash incident program, marine theft, and operational/patrol and administrative enforcement support programs of the state's boating program.</p> </li><li> <p>Assigned to work and coordinate the states recreational boating education program.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensures boating education training meets National Association of State Boating Law Administration (NASBLA) guidelines; training is readily available on a statewide basis; the instructors are properly certified and supervised; and proper documentation is maintained.</p> </li><li> <p>Plans, schedules, and conducts meetings with assigned enforcement boating education instructors in insure they are kept abreast of changes in laws and policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates and manages the boating education activities with Wildlife Enforcement Agents.</p> </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details:</p> <p>Appointment Type: Promotional opportunity limited to current permanent status classified employees within the Office of the Secretary, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement, only.</p> <p>Location: Located within the Enforcement Division of the Office of the Secretary East Baton Rouge Parish.</p> <p>The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is a State As a Model Employer (SAME) agency that supports the recruitment, hiring, and retention of individuals with disabilities.</p> <p>How To Apply:</p> <p>No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. </p> <p>To apply for this vacancy, click on the "Apply" link above and complete an electronic application, which can be used for this vacancy as well as future job opportunities.
