<p>Part-time flexible schedule, 25-30 hours/week. Starting ASAP.</p> <p>SUMMARY</p> <p>Under general supervision, the Engineering Intern will support engineers and project managers in both design and fieldwork while gaining exposure to industry-standard practices and tools. The city will offer a flexible schedule to work around college classes as needed.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED</p> <p>None.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Conducting field surveys, data collection, and on-site construction inspections. </li><li>Assisting in drafting transportation designs using AutoCAD. </li><li>Reviewing reports, studies, and standards. </li><li>Preparing bid documents, quantity takeoffs, and construction cost estimates. </li><li>Installing, downloading, and processing traffic data, and integrating it into GIS maps. </li><li>Providing advice and resolving issues related to construction and design. </li><li>Coordinating active transportation projects, including striping and signing projects. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education: High school diploma or GED. Enrollment in, or recently graduated with a bachelor's or associate degree program with major coursework in Civil Engineering or related field.</p> <p>Experience: Basic knowledge of engineering systems</p> <p>Certifications/Licenses:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Utah Driver's License </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Basic engineering principles and practices, particularly in civil or transportation engineering. </li><li>Or interest in municipal transportation and traffic engineering projects and designs. </li><li>Transportation infrastructure, active transportation projects, and pedestrian crossing designs. </li></ul> <p>Skill with:</p> <ul> <li>AutoCAD for drafting and design work is preferred, but not required; experience with AutoCAD can be gained through internship. </li><li>Strong analytical skills for processing and interpreting traffic data. </li><li>Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) for reporting and data management. </li><li>Written and verbal communication skills for reports, presentations, and collaboration. </li><li>Problem-solving issues related to construction, design, and project coordination. </li><li>Time management and organization handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and methodologies in engineering. </li><li>Communicate and collaborate with engineers, contractors, and city staff to resolve project-related issues. </li><li>Conduct field surveys and collect accurate data in various environments with the direction of engineering staff. </li><li>Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports. </li><li>Learn about construction processes, construction materials, and assist with quality assurance for City projects. </li><li>Work effectively both independently and within a team. </li><li>Follow detailed instructions and execute tasks with attention to quality and safety. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 25 lbs.; exposure to outdoors, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.</p>
