We want you to apply!</p> <p>Job Summary and Qualifications</p> <p>As a Phlebotomist at our facility you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team. We are a highly functioning team that supports many different departments and has a passion for providing the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing. In this role:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Accountable for adhering to our mission including meeting behavioral expectations (compassion, caring and confidentiality), providing excellence in health care delivery, supporting dignity of all persons (empowerment) and responsible stewardship of resources.</p> </li><li> <p>Receives orders either by telephone or requisition from the nursing units or physicians; enters requests on computer by patient number, operator and tests ordered and travels to patient site, as necessary, to obtain specimens.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares skin site and performs venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques to obtain blood specimens in accordance with physicians orders.</p> </li><li> <p>Instructs patients in specimen collection methods and procedures (i.e., urinalysis and bacteriology), and obtains specimens for culture and analysis.</p> </li><li> <p>Labels and records specimens obtained, transport them to the laboratory and distribute to appropriate laboratory area for analysis.</p> </li><li> <p>Follows guidelines that maintain safety for oneself, patients, visitors and co-workers and if classified as a category I or II employee under OSHA regulations, adheres to OSHA standards by wearing personal protective equipment, following universal precautions and being knowledgeable about blood borne pathogens.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as may be assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>You will collect blood samples and urine from patients for laboratory testing including blood cultures.</p> </li><li> <p>You will register specimens and orders tests in LIS and prepare/label samples for internal or external testing.</p> </li><li> <p>You will communicate lab test requests and results to appropriate staff, departments, and/or physicians.</p> </li><li> <p>You will collect and document urine drug screens requiring chain of custody.</p> </li><li> <p>You will assist with in-services or training as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>You will assist with administrative duties within the laboratory.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications-</p> <ul> <li> <p>Previous health care experience required laboratory experience and knowledge of aseptic methods and basic medical terminology preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Good communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Analytical skills necessary to select best site for obtaining blood and bacteriological specimens based on physicians orders.</p> </li><li> <p>Does not pose a direct threat or risk to the safety and health of themselves and other employees.</p> </li><li> <p>Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification.</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience or completion of a phlebotomy training program.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent communication/people skills and problem solving skills.</p> </li></ul> <p>Computer skills and filing/clerical skills.</p> <ul> <li> <p>High attention to detail and accuracy.</p> </li><li> <p>American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification.
