<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>The College of Education at Eastern Oregon University seeks a tenure-</p> <p>line faculty member with expertise in literacy education, the Science of</p> <p>Reading, and general education pedagogy to serve across multiple</p> <p>licensure and graduate programs. The successful candidate will teach</p> <p>undergraduate and graduate courses in literacy, assessment, and core</p> <p>education foundations; supervise clinical field experiences; mentor and</p> <p>advise teacher candidates; and contribute to program development,</p> <p>accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts. This position</p> <p>requires active engagement in scholarship and service that supports</p> <p>educator preparation and strengthens partnerships with regional</p> <p>schools. The faculty member will play a vital role in meeting TSPC and</p> <p>AAQEP standards, ensuring high-quality and evidence-based instruction,</p> <p>and advancing EOU's mission to prepare equity-minded educators who</p> <p>can meet the diverse learning needs of students across Oregon.</p> <p>Key Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Expertise in Literacy Education and the Science of Reading: Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction, reading assessment, and literacy development across P-12 contexts. </li><li>Generalist Pedagogical Knowledge: Strong grounding in core education foundations such as curriculum development, instructional planning, learning theory, assessment, and child/adolescent development. </li><li>Effective Teaching Across Modalities: Ability to design and deliver high-quality instruction in face-to-face, online, and hybrid environments, using inclusive and culturally sustaining pedagogical strategies. </li><li>Demonstrated experience using evidence-based instructional and advising practices that effectively support student learning and success across varied backgrounds and educational needs. </li><li>Clinical Supervision and Mentorship: Skill in supporting teacher candidates during clinical field placements and student teaching, with the ability to model reflective, evidence-based practice. </li><li>Program Development and Continuous Improvement: Ability to contribute to program assessment, accreditation activities (AAQEP), and data-informed improvement processes. </li><li>Collaborative Professional Practice: Capacity to work effectively with colleagues, school district partners, and community stakeholders to strengthen educator preparation pathways. </li><li>Scholarly Engagement: Evidence of ongoing or emerging research, creative activity, or professional inquiry relevant to literacy education, pedagogy, or educator preparation. </li><li>Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and colleagues. </li></ul> <p>Key Character Qualities</p> <ul> <li>Integrity and Professionalism: Demonstrates honesty, ethical judgment, and responsibility in teaching, scholarship, and service. </li><li>Commitment to Equity and Inclusion: Values diverse perspectives, strives to reduce barriers for underrepresented students, and actively promotes socially just educational practices. </li><li>Empathy and Student-Centeredness: Shows genuine care for students' growth, well-being, and success; responds thoughtfully to student needs and supports first-generation, rural, and nontraditional learners. </li><li>Collegiality and Collaboration: Works respectfully and effectively with colleagues, contributes positively to team environments, and engages in shared governance. </li><li>Adaptability and Flexibility: Responds effectively to evolving program needs, accreditation expectations, and changes in P-12 and higher education contexts. </li><li>Reflectiveness and Growth Orientation: Welcomes feedback, engages in professional learning, and models reflective practice for teacher candidates. </li><li>Innovation and Problem-Solving: Brings creativity and resourcefulness to instructional design, assessment, and program improvement efforts. </li><li>Dependability and Accountability: Follows through on commitments, meets deadlines, and maintains reliability in teaching, advising, supervision, and service roles. </li><li>Community-Mindedness: Values partnerships with regional schools and communities and recognizes the unique needs of rural and diverse populations. </li></ul>
